Perhaps you need to delete the system and user cache files (as you may have remnant settings on your mac. get OnyX to accomplish this task unless you want to perform the ops using terminal.

The culprit is the incompatibility of google sync and iCal. When you do google sync, it adds a new calendar to iCal (which contains all of your other iCal events)...So in essence you have two copies...
