I agree with aiharkness. There is no need to pull the battery - even if you could - and a soft reset cures 95% of any problems you might have. To answer your question, a full reboot is very rarely...

Also, to answer your original question - not only do I believe that BlackBerry will be around in five years, but I believe that I will still be using a BlackBerry device, probably on BES19.

This is false. There was no sale. BlackBerry has a dedicated BBM team, and they built BBM apps for iOS, Android, and WP, allowing nearly all smartphone users to have BBM if they want it.

I don't know where your friend get his news, but BlackBerry most definitely did not sell BBM for $1.5M. The BBM you have always used is still there; the difference is Android, iOS, and WP owners can...

They yellow light usually indicates that the battery is charging. It is possible that the battery is completely drained and needs a long time to charge. Leave it overnight and see what happens.

The 9720 exists, and is much newer than the 9900, but it doesn't have nearly the specs that the 9900 has.

If you insist on a BBOS device, the Bold 9900 is your best choice.

My wife's phone gets an alert (tone) but messages aren't delivered or read until she opens the app. It seems to be a similar issue to early builds of BBM for iOS.

As I mentioned, the device will be wiped when your boss enters the password incorrectly. And unless your boss is in IT, he shouldn't be handling the device anyway - it should be returned to IT.
