Under Options/Email Reconciliations I had set emails to delete on mailbox and handlheld. I presume what I was seeing was just a long delay whilst it communicated with the mail...

There's another folder called Applications Center. IT contains all apps not yet installed. You might find BB Maps in there. Just follow the instructions to install and it should appear in folder...
