I would go for the Bold. Its keypad is larger and more convenient to use, especially if you have to write many emails on the go. And, as a bonus for its size, you have 3G and HSDPA connectivity.

8.14.1 should work fine with 200.34.36. I have used with no problems at all. Try resetting the E51 before installing BBC version 8.14.1 (*#7370#).
