Have had over 24 hours with it restricted to 2G only - haven't missed a single call. Looks like I won't be using 3G for a while - which is very disappointing - I upgraded to the 9700 to get 3G. :-(

I've switched it to 2G only earlier today - and have tested it several times and its ringing fine each time. So - that would suggest its an issue...
