i have the same problem with WIFI being on and recognized, but no UMA signal. This happens at home, and on my school's campus, UCSD. Kinda defeats the purpose of WIFI connectivity.

I use YouMail, which is a voicemail service that sends you a copy of your voicemails as an mp3 attachment in an email. I believe that at one point, my Pearl was able to download these attachments...
