You probably set up your gmail account in BIS as pop instead of imap, which doesn't sync sent mails with gmail. If set up as imap, sent mails are synced automatically one way from the bb to gmail.

Did you set up any email accounts in BIS? Calendars on the blackberry are "tied" to the email accounts set up in BIS. Then you can sync your outlook calendar(s) to the calendar(s) on the blackberry.
