Nobody asked me to apologize nor was it even hinted at...

You will notice I apologized to the BBF Moderators and the BBF members... I made NO mention to the OP because IMHO my remarks to him/her would be valid if him/her and I were at a bar having a conversation....

d_fisher had valid points in his post... I slept on his points and posted in the AM after having a cup of java to make sure I was awake....

ide like to see the header of the email in question and see which mail servers it passed through.. if it was intercepted it would have to be relayed back to a server which should put some info into the email header....

RIM uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), 128bit fixed block, 256-bits keys. See BlackBerry Glossary, click on A for AES.

There is a fairly large consensus that this is the best encryption algorithm available at the current time. Any algorithm can theoretically be broken if you have enough computing strength and lots of time.

I think its safe to say that RIM has the advantage right now when it comes to secure email.

Not to stir all this up again. However, this could be possible. I was at a BES 4.1 seminar yesterday for Novell GroupWise and the discussion was brought up about forwarding embedded attachments. When a message is forwarded as an attachment, the message is embedded. There have been instances where users opening those attachments have received part of the initial email and then part of a totally unrelated email. RIM has recorded 2 instances that the instructor knew of, three members attending the seminar said they have had users experience this as well. RIM disabled embedded attachments to be viewed in service pack 3 for this very reason. I do not know if the OP is using BES or if they are using GroupWise.

Most importantly if anyone can crack RIM's security (AES). Not only have you cracked RIM's security you have crack all of the cryptograhpy world too. With this type of encryption it all comes down to the length and complexity of the passphrases, the longer the better. I think a 64 ansi char passphrase is what is needed for 256bit encryp. All most all of HIGHLY securited ecrypted communication is AES or similar(blowfish, serpent, 3DES, ect.) So my point is RIM's secuity standard is not specific to just RIM as far as message transport goes.

As far as the blackberry handeld not being 100% secure, your're right it's not. It's more like 99.9999999999% secure. As some one here has stated before, it would take a lot of computing power and lots of time. Both of wich no one has for it to be effective means of peaking into the RIM blackberry network to view message traffic.

Now what ever happend to all those claims of Quantum Computing. If this hacker had that technology,, well lets just say we should all turn off our Blackberries.
