Question about folder redirection!
i have an 8820 and was just added to my corporate BES. I had to migrate from some weird email server to exchange. Now that I am on the exchange server and the BES - my outlook rules/folder email is not coming to my device. i see the folders in "folder view" but, the emails are not there.
i've read all the threads regarding this topic, but my device does not have this option: Messages -> Options -> Email Settings -> Folder Redirection. if i could see the folder redirection option, i could check the folder and view through my messages folder. can someone help? my BES admin can't bc he's a retard. |
I don't have folder redirection either. Does that mean my BES Admin is a retard?
Well, actually, I have it but you have to hit the menu key to see it. Your BES admin is likely not a retard. |
well, my BES admin can't help me ... he doesn't know how to make my subfolder / rules emails to show on my device.
is it a BES thing, or can i do something from my device? thanks in advance |
BES only process whatever is in the Inbox. If you have a rule that automatically move an incoming message into a folder, this message will not show up on the BB.

Rant in Bb
Actually, this wouldn't work retroactively.
That is mail in those folders not moved on/by the blackberry are not visible. sorry. And your admin may be a retard, but seems like (s)he's doin his job... If the admin is really good you might even find their posts here! |
ok, so it looks like i'm the retard.
so, what are my options so that I can view the emails sent to my subfolders? do i no longer have the ability to create outlook rules? please help. |
I changed your Thread title. You got some good help from some good BES Admins. No need to be calling them (or yours) retards. ;-)

Given the same circumstances, what I would try as a user would be to ALTER my Outlook rules so that instead of MOVING my emails to different folders, I would COPY them instead. That way, my messages still end up where the rules moved them to, and I can still read them in my inbox on the handheld. Knowing that my rule copied the original email on my desktop client to the folder I want, I would then delete the email from my handheld, which should (if I understand BES mail reconciliation correctly) delete it from Outlook's inbox, yet I will still have a copy in the folders I specified the email be copied to. Not sure if it'd work but sounds good on paper! ;) |
You guys are all WRONG.
I have a Blackberry 8830 and we are running Lotus Notes as well as a BES and I have Desktop Manager 4.2.2. I have many rules in Lotus Notes on my desktop that move (not copy) my mail into subfolders. I have no issues what-so-ever getting these to redirect to my Blackberry. How do you ask.... I installed the Desktop Manger on my desktop at work. I then use the USB cable that came with my Blackberry and attach it to my computer. I launch Desktop Manager and sign in. I had to point it to my ini and id file for Notes. (Not sure what the config for Outlook is.) Then I go into the email settings, on Desktop Manager and tell it what folders to redirect. I did this while not logged into my Lotus Notes desktop client and now boom... my subfolder called Tickets is redirected to my Blackberry. If I delete them from my Blackberry I can choose weither or not to delete them from my Lotus Notes mail as well. The other part of this... once the mail redirects to my Blackberry I can either have it stay in the Inbox or I can then create a rule that will move it into a subfolder. (This is on the Blackberry..) Monkeys do fling poo. I guess there's some debate about humans getting away with that type of behavior? Maybe some humans do fling poo... but I'd hardly call it acceptable, which was really my point. Maybe we'll just have to agree to disagree. |
OMG you are right.. Monkeys do fling poo.
I am so sorry to state that you were wrong. But I would be more then happy to agree to disagree. Or is it disagree about agreeing? |

redirection from Handheld
To set folder redirection on the handheld, the BlackBerry Handheld Software must be version 4.0 or higher.
1. From the Home screen on the handheld, go to Messages. 2. Click the trackwheel and select Options > Email Settings. 3. Click the trackwheel and select Folder Redirection. 4. In the Folder Redirection menu, expand the Mailbox by highlighting it, clicking trackwheel and selecting Expand. 5. Under the Mailbox, expand the Inbox by highlighting it, clicking the trackwheel and selecting Expand. 6. Highlight the folder you want to enable redirection on. Click the trackwheel and select Change Optiion. Note: If you are unable to select Expand for any of the folders, or if the Change Option menu option is unavailable, try turning Wireless Reconcile on the handheld off and then on again. You can find Wireless Reconcile in Messages > Options > Email Reconciliation. 7. Click the trackwheel and select Save to save your changes. |
THANK YOU!! this helped me so much, I was pulling my hair out looking for this option. A lot of the other posts here on the forums are giving incorrect instructions for navigating to this setting.

I am having a small problem with getting folders working on Blackbberys 8310. I have setup a new 8310 from scratch and added the user to the BES ok. It has reconciled all the inbox from the past 60 days (as it is supposed to) and will forward new messages to the correct folders when they are recieved but will not reconcile emails to folders (other than the inbox) that were received into Lotus Notes before the user was created on the BES and activated on the 8310. We could really do with having older emails in the folders as well as the inbox.
Please help. |

Okay, can I bring this back up for a second to clarify something? I have a user who has a bunch of subfolders, and everything was redirected and in the right folders and going great, but apparently, suddenly all her folder redirection got turned off. I looked on the server and folder redirection was enabled, but they were all unchecked. I don't know why, and figuring it out will be a problem for another time. But now I've re-enabled all of them, but the emails aren't going back into them. I'm pretty sure this is right (and by "right" I mean a shortcoming of BES), but how do I get them to re-redirect? Is the only way to do another activation? If I do that, she'll only get the last two weeks of emails in there...
|
Any email that was sent prior to re-enabling folder redirection will not sync, it doesn't work that way. Only emails sent to those subfolders since you re-enabled redirection will go to the folders.
Or is that not working either? |
