Audible.com AudibleAir expression of interest

Side note:
I have been an audible customer for 6 years (nearly since their inception) and a blackberry customer for 8 years.

AudibleAir is a great first step, but it needs to be customized for the blackberry, not just a generic java app that happens to work on the blackberry. I have been emailing support over at Audible.com with issues/suggestions and I think I have someone that will listen. I wanted to guage the audience here on the forums. Are there more people like me interested in getting a better AudibleAir for the blackberry?

Spelled out like Dawg suggested:
AudibleAir is a generic java client for Audiobooks from Audible.com. It works on the blackberry, but has issues.

OTA: Audible OTA

***Update*** A new version is currently being beta tested by members of this forum (and others). Posts pertaining to this start toward the end of page 2 in this thread.

Really? 41 views and only 6 votes. Wow, am I lame or what?... Maybe I should have made that one of the options. Any mods want to add that one for me?

Dawg 09-27-2007 06:03 AM

explaining what it is might have helped I have never even heard of the software before. It hard to take a poll on something people know nothing about in my opinion.

That was kinda my point in the second post. Am I so lame that I am alone in knowing what it is and liking Audiobooks?

I've never heard of it. I might consider it. But for now I had to vote that I do not use it.

This probably should have been an option.

Grimlin 09-27-2007 08:55 AM

Added URLs. ...and mods, I am still serious about adding another option to the poll.

Can you listen to books you already own? it sounds pretty cool.

JSanders 09-27-2007 09:08 AM

What is the option you want to add to the poll, I'd be glad to do.

Define that. If you have an audible subscription already, then yes. It will pull in your audible library. It will even pull them down OTA during a predefined "downtime".

Yes. You can download the audible files with your PC and then copy them over to your media card. That is what I do as it is quicker and our firewall kept blocking them. I can delete the Desktop IPPP service and make it work through the carrier, but that is painful.

I am an Audible customer for about 3 years. I have pruchase quite a few audio books and never knew there was any support for Blackberry. I would love to have a true blackberry app to play and download ota.

I didn't really see the choice in the poll so I didn't vote. If I go to the device center in the Audible site, I don't see a selection for RIM at all. So I don't see how anyone will vote when I am sure most are like me and don't know of any support what so ever for Audible on the Blackberry. In fact, I am simply confused by this entire thread... Is their support for playing audible content on the BB? I've never seen it.

Best,

Alex

It's OK, but needs improvement

I've been an audible subscriber for a while. I've used the audible air player with mixed results.

what I like:
  • ability to have one device for everything (MP3/audible)

what I don't like:
  • will not stop automatically (like the media player) when an incoming call is received
  • randomly will lose the "place" of where I'm listening. I have learned to bookmark files often.
  • because the trackball is the volume control, when you put the phone into a holster it will greatly increase the volume unless you make sure you hold the trackball away from the case when putting it away.
  • a real battery hog, unlike the media player. I can listen to MP3s all day and still have over 50% battery life. I'm down to nearly nothing with the same amount of time on audible air.

Because of these issues, I "downgraded" my audible subscription to a one-time annual membership rather than the monthly credit. I was going to completely cancel but they offered me one credit (book) for the $9.95 annual subscription price.

It's a good concept - but their downloads should either work with the media player (MP3 format - which isn't going to happen) or they need to make big improvements to their software.

Blackberry support is beta. Use the OTA link above to download.

Agreed. I already sent nearly the same list to them. If I don't hear anything back soon, I am going to bug them again. They are so close, they just need make it more customized for the blackberry.
