Re: new playbook

Here's the info about the PlayBook directly from RIM.
BlackBerry 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet PC - US

Note this page says the 4G LTE PlayBook which is available in limited markets. The original Playbook is wifi only. Look at all the tabs for features, specs, apps, etc. This should answer a lot of your questions about the PlayBook. Regarding the iPad vs. PlayBook it might depend on what you want to do with it. Using Bridge with your 9930 greatly enhances PlayBook -I it keep it connected 24/7 and always have internet access when there is no Wifi available.

I know of about 45+ people with PlayBooks.

I have 3 in my house.

I know a bunch that have owned both ipad and Playbook and like the playbook better with its multi tasking and Bridge feature.

there are lots of apps now (100,000) and more coming in February

I have both an iPad and a Playbook. Now that I have a handwriting app for my Playbook, I haven't used my iPad in 6 months. If you have a Blackberry, the Bridge is awesome.

What is the handwriting app you're using?

You can have internet access for browser and most apps with bridge when there is no wifi. You can get read your email, BBM messages, and sms messages on the PlayBook, and you can use Facebook, Twitter and other apps requiring internet access. You can use and chanbe calendar, tasks and contacts on your PB and it will be changed on your BlackBerry too.

Re: new playbook

I may be a bit late to this thread but....

If my Playbook had the same apps that my iPad does I would toss my iPad into the trash. I like my iPad, of course, but I like the Playbook much better than the iPad. Browser is better and it's easier to navigate. The Bridge feature is nice, no data plan required for the PB. I use my Torch as a mouse and a keyboard which makes it easy to type on and navigate.

The downside is really the lack of apps. I have a bunch that I sideloaded from Android apps and that helped. More are said to be coming when BB10 launches and I hope more developers jump on board. It remains to be seen, though.

Re: new playbook

I have never had an iPad...and my PB is the first tablet in the home. I find it somewhat easy to use and the HDMI capability is awesome...also, being able to use it with my 9900 & VM605 to get full blown Dolby stereo in my vehicle..is quite amazing (while watching a movie for example).

However I agree with other posters here about the lack of decent apps. I consider this a communication device just like my Bold. As such, not having a working Skype native to PB is major bummer.! Secondly, the fact that one cannot sync ones contact list with the one on ones BB phone is absolutely infuriating and a huge SCREW up on RIM's hand.!! There is Absolutely no reason for that....and I might add, I trust that RIM will see fit in some VERY NEAR future OS upgrade to make that possible...Why the hell should I have to manually type in some 945 contacts..??? Thats BS.

Still, all in all I like it, I like the size/weight and and I do like the LTE capabilities. Being out in the middle of the N. Eastern Alberta bush & being able to read the National Post on a daily basis is pretty kewl...and best of all, it fits nicely in my centre console armrest area.!

Cheers,

Stk

Yeah, not being able to sync either with the BB or with Outlook is a major flaw. I don't get why they haven't added that. No Skype is M$ being stingy.

I haven't personally used this app, GroovyNotes, but there seems to be some good reviews of it.

Thought you might take a look. Not cheap though....

Re: new playbook

I know that ATT has 4gLTE Now. It would be nice to have blackberry bold/torch or any model to connect playbook 4gLTE. Does it require to use bridge since playbook has 4g? I dont think it needs to connect? Now if I want carrier from sprint for blackberry bold 9930 and have playbook 4gLTE. How does it work because sprint doesnt provide 4g like ATT?

Will playbook speed 4g if i bridge blackberry bold to it if my carrier is Sprint? I am confusing.
I want to switch from att to sprint becuase cheap monthly but doesnt have 4g. Maybe I keep my att as well.

Re: new playbook

I am not sure I understood your questions. If the PlayBook has 4G or 4G Lte and a data plan, you would not need to use Bridge on the handset. As far as I know the 4G/LTE PlayBooks are not available in the US yet.

The Bridge app uses Bluetooth. If your phone has 4G Lte, then your PlayBook should be faster online when bridged. None of the current BlackBerry phones have 4G/LTE but the new BlackBerry 10 phones will have it.
