9900 Browser open

Hi, i have a 9900 and was just outside the country and had to turn off my phone completely because the internet browser would not shut down incurring usual high roaming costs, everytime i pressed menu to see open applications the browser was always open, i went everytime to the browser and closed it but it remained open so i had to eventually turn the phone off completely. The installed apps i have are smart wi-fi, google, etc but all are closed but i was thinking smart wifi had something to do with it so i deactvated that but the browser remained open. I never had this problem with my previous phone, the 9700. Can anyone help?

When you open the browser from your homescreen, what do you see?

It opens the bookmarks list.

I don't think you can "close" the browser it's one of the procesees that can't be turned off like messages and BBM unless you don't have BBM installed. But having the browser open not doing anything shouldn't run data up I don't think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It never happened with my 9700, i spent many weeks out of the UK last year and it only racked up data costs when i used maps or google etc, with my 9900 this weekend out of the country it was racking up the data costs without me using it.

I checked through every app and none were open so a bit of a mystery to me. I rebooted the phone etc but still it is open in the open application list.

The browser icon in the application list was present on every bb I have ever owned.

this maybe but doesn't explain the data usage.

Re: 9900 Browser open

Data usage was not due to the browser, if you weren't actively browsing. A roaming BB will ALWAYS incur data charges...even if you don't receive a single message.

If you have apps that are polling every so often, that will also incur charges and if they're heavy on data, even more so. The browser icon will ALWAYS appear in the task switcher, as will the phone, message list, home screen and BBM. That's normal.

Do you have Ubersocial(twitter), mail or whatever that check on time to time to get new data?

Did you try a battery pull?

Re: 9900 Browser open

I do the battery pull regularly and i also installed the latest os from here and have yet to try it abroad, i understand about the twitter apps etc updating but i have the same apps installed as my old 9700 but the data usage is rapid in comparison to the 9700,

No need for correction, you are right, the OP has some other issue.
