LOVE my 9850

I have to say, I am SUPER impressed with the 9850. I got one to upgrade my work device (a 9670 Style), and WOW!

The screen resolution is very crisp and clean, the scrolling is very smooth, and the browser is very fast (especially on WiFi). I'd say the browser is at least as fast as the iPhone 4 I also have for work.

I love the 9850 so much I just spent extra $$ to upgrade my personal device (from the 9650 Bold, which may find it's way to a watery gravy the way it's been acting).

Who else has it and what do you like most about it? Have you had any 'buyers remorse' yet? Anything you don't like about it?

My first impression about the 9850/9860 was one of disappointment, that they've not included the physical keyboard. I've tried typing on an iPhone, and have not been impressed at all - maybe I'd eventually get used to it, but it sure doesn't seem as easy to use as a REAL keyboard. After being used to the real keyboard from previous BlackBerry's and also after familiarity with the iPhone touch-keyboard, what's your impression of the 9850 compared with both of those?

Thanks...

I am THRILLED to hear such a glowing review. I grabbed the 9930 within the first minute (literally!) of availability but I also want to look into the 9850. I love love love the 9930, and the screen is awesome. But the one thing I miss about my HTC Evo is the MONSTER screen. Combining the BlackBerry OS and the Evo form factor could be a real winner. If your opinion remains this positive I'd say confidence is high I'll be grabbing one myself. Perfect compliment to my 9930!

I love the 9850 its a great phone the lack of a real keyboard can be wierd to the old school blackberry users.I found that with perseverance it becomes second nature and i can text slightly faster without the keyboard all it takes is practice and a bit of patience lolz.

There have been a few times where I get a wrong letter on the BB when typing in landscape mode, since the buttons are slightly closer than the iPhone, but I'm getting used to it. I'd get more used to it if I could get it away from my son.....

As far as holding it, it is more comfortable to hold and type in landscape mode than the iPhone. When holding the iPhone for several minutes (I do have a case on it), it begins to feel uncomfortable in my hands, especially my left hand near my thumb. I don't notice that with the 9850.

@juwaack68:How is the battery backup on the 9850? Does it last through a day with email, browsing and calls? Considering getting one but would want to know how it stacks up against the 9780 that I'm using currently.

Re: LOVE my 9850

Honestly I barely use my device for phone calls, so will keep an eye on the browsing, emails, and BBM'ing to see how it compares to my 9650 (which, when used heavily for a day, wouldn't make it to the end of the day).

My personal device should be arriving today, so I'll post back after the weekend.

I use my phone a lot. That's one of the things that made my HTC Evo so bad with battery life, even though there's a proximity sensor near the earpiece to detect when the phone is up against your face and to turn the screen off. Could be an issue for me with the 9850.

My personal one just arrived. So much for getting any work done the rest of the day.....

Yep, my two biggest concerns with the 9850/60 are no physical keyboard, and battery life. And the preliminary reports here from others about battery life are not good, unfortunately.

Re: LOVE my 9850

I will be using it quite a bit this weekend (although probably not for phone much), so will let you know how it goes.

I've got it set up and reinstalled all of my apps:
- Endomondo
- BerryWeather
- UberSocial
- Poynt
- Sprint Navigation

..and they all run fine so far (although I haven't used Sprint Nav yet...but it installed fine). I really, really like how speedy fast this thing is. I know some people think OS7 is just a 'minor' upgrade to OS6 (and it may very well be), but having a speedy fast device makes me feel like it's a huge upgrade.

Is UberSocial much better than regular old Twitter that comes pre-installed?

Unless Hurricane Irene is in full swing tomorrow morning I plan to head to the Sprint store and fondle a 9850. Who knows - if it fondles me back it might be coming home with me. Yeah, I'm easy like that.

Haha, let us know if you were fondled.

I just realized why this device may have a shorter battery life than any previous model I've had.... And the reason is actually sort of good. It's because I can actually USE the browser effectively. I've been on many websites that I didn't bother with on my 9650 just because the browser was so slow and ineffective. Now that I will be using this device more, I do expect the battery to take a hit.

My work 9850 has been sitting in my purse all night, unused (poor thing) since about 2pm yesterday (18 hours) and the battery is still at 100%. So standby time does not seem to be an issue.

Re: LOVE my 9850

Report on typing...... Sure has been easyto pick up and get typing fast. I dare say I can type almost faster than I did with a full keyboard. This thing has 3 different typing types: direct, corrective, and predictive. I hate predictive, and direct didn't correct enough. The corrective method reminds me of they way SureType would fix words. Very nice. Don't miss my physical keyboard at all.

As for a battery report, I can't give an accurate one until I get home. Where I'm at for the next few days only has 1X coverage, unlike 1XEV At home.

Re: LOVE my 9850

I broke down and stopped in at the local Sprint store today today to look at one of these while I wait (forever, it seems) for Verizon to release theirs. I shouldn't have done so - now I feel like a crackhead jonesing for my next high. That thing was GREAT! The browsing in Landscape mode is soooo much better than my 9650, and even without a wifi connection was nice and fast. The swiping and double-tapping to move & open was very intuitive and easy. I played with it for about 10 minutes, even installing BBM 6.0.0.129 that it was telling me to upgrade to, and NEVER saw the spinning clock once. They keyboard seemed fairly easy to use - that'll take some adjustment since I've never had a touch screen phone before, but if the predictive function is half as good as I'm reading here, I'll be fine.

DAMN, I want this thing! NOW!!!!

Re: LOVE my 9850

I picked up my 9860 on Monday and am really really enjoying it. Battery, although not as good as the 9800 it replaced still gets me through a workday at about 30%. That would be probably 50 read emails, 20 replies, a dozen texts, some web surfing and about an hour on the phone.

As above I switched my keyboard to corrective from predictive and find that to be the desired experience. I am still learning what has changed in OS7. It's so much more of an enjoyable experience it's really too bad it too RIM this long to bring this level of device to market.
