Unlocking a 9530 without a SIM, this okay?

Hey guys,

I have my friend's 9530 here, and I was going through unlocking it.

I got to the section to select a Sim Card, but the screen showed "No Valid Sim Card" at the top. Regardless, I went and typed MEPD and MEP2 anyways.

Now at this point, I am wondering. Is it okay to input the unlock code without a sim card inserted? (There technically was a sim card inside, it just didn't read it for whatever reason. It is a sim card that is working in my phone.)

I got "Code Accepted" and I get..
Sim = Disabled
Network = Inactive
Network Subset = Disabled
Service Provider = Disabled
Corporate = Disabled

It still doesn't read my Sim Card, but I am unable to bring up the menu to enter an Unlock Code anymore.

Have yet to be able to test it, but is this Blackberry unlocked? Or will testing a new sim only tell?

Thanks in advance!

Also, that verification procedure doesn't appear to work on the 9550 (maybe it does on the 9530?), at least not mine. I get absolutely no response after typing in MEPD, regardless of the type or orientation of the onscreen keyboard. Any thoughts?

Not already unlocked (unless Verizon goofed when I first bought it). Don't have another carrier's SIM to test it yet though. Wouldn't realistically expect it to be unlocked.

Yep. You don't have to have a SIM card in the device, just type MEPD from the SIM screen. Works on both the 9530 and 9550, I just tested it on both.

What else?

What's really weird is that when using .713 (I think that was the previous version I had loaded?), I got no response when typing in MEPD (regardless of which type keyboard I tried). Loaded .1015 a week ago, and it now works as it should. Thanks!
