is my bold a fake?!

I just bought a bold 9000 I went somewhere to hook it up, and I was told it was fake. And then I went to a little phone booth that does unlocking and all that stuff and they said the system is all blackberry, but just the case is different because its unbranded? Is there anyway I can tell if it is? Also... if it is a fake, will data still work, like the BBM and browser? can someone please help!!!!

There are some Chinese "knock-offs" out there that have the same look and feel of the RIM product, but the PIN doesn't work which means no RIM related services such as email, BBM, app world. BB browser, etc. A very limited device in terms of what you can do with it.

What does the label under the battery say?

would there be any way to change the programing so that stuff works?
I know I took it to another place and they said it could just be referb. since the screen isnt as bright.

MidnightDraven 05-20-2010 01:02 PM

Nope, its real.
Back cover is a replacement, as the Bold 9000 comes with a faux leather back cover.

miamirulz29 05-20-2010 04:55 PM

Yes midnight is right, it's real except the back cover is different.

The quickest way to get him to find out is just throw any old sim card in it - go to a new sms and type in 'mypin' if a pin number then displayed - all is well, if not, well, all is not well.

Also - you should've been able to get a SIM no matter if the phone was fake or not - the carrier has no right to get *****y about who made it or whatever, if it was running a BB OS with a cellular radio then it's got nothing to do with them!

up for him to get solutions
