Where is OS 5.0 for pearl?

where is the os 5.0 for pearl? or there is nothing more for my pearl in future? is this the end of OS updates (major) for Pearl series?

Nope...sorry...you will most likely upgrade to the 9100 series to have the Pearl form factor along with OS 5.0 features

That's right.

The current Pearls don't have enough built-in memory (only 64MB) to support OS 5.

The new pearl is around the corner right?

Give or take a couple months, roughly.

Just out of curiosity what features are in OS 5.0 that are not in OS 4.5 other than the new theme?

It's a long list... automatic timezone changing, threaded SMS, ability to choose which BIS accounts appear in your main messages list, flick scrolling (at least on the Storm) and other feature upgrades.

Really? Anything else?

Having a Pearl and knowing we'd never get 5, I didn't bother to find out about it.

So far, except for timezone changing (which even that is rare for me to deal with), there's nothing much there for me after all. I don't do SMS, only have 2 accounts on the BIS, and don't have a Storm.

There are a lot of infrastructure differences between 5.0 and 4.5. RIM is in the process of integrating the "push" services into other aspects of the devices, rather than just email and bbm.

I'm surprised that RIM can not add automatic timezone changing as most non smartphones have the ability to do that, my old NEC phone on 3 UK could even handle the change in timezone from GMT-BST. I've got an app for my 8110 that can do threaded SMS, and thdefault RIM SMS app sort of can do threaded SMS, surely RIM could change something in the default SMS app to tidy up the crude threaded SMS that the default SMS app handles. Why does it need OS 5.0 to do something a simple as select BIS accounts appear in your main messages list (I only use the main messages list for Notifications in the Facebook app)?

Its not that they can't do it....they don't want to. RIM can make more money by coming out with new devices with new software that consumers will buy, rather than updating an older device. Its simple economics

FOSHO!! I agree 110%! As a third party rep and random experience over the years with ANY sort of technology, it's absolutely true! Companies aren't in it for us...well they kinda are but to a glass ceiling.

*off topic*
I've wanted to upgrade to and Android phone (because of this) for a very long time but the "REQUIRED" service of adding minimum $30 a month for data/3G services is a huge deterrence. Obviously most people just say get it non-contract...but then, what's the point? I pay the same $$ regardless (30x22 = $660 ~= Retail [$399.99]) Ultimately, if you upgrade the phone and you're definitely gonna buy the data plan, you may as well lock in the price. But if you're only gonna use txt/calls (like I do) the 8100 is MORE than enough!

Sorry for the rant. Have a good Night/Day.

Does OS 5.0 fix the multiple accounts in the calendar problem?
