Activating 8900 on at&t
All,
I have a Rogers 8900 Curve coming my way by end of week (I am based in US and use at&t.) A buddy of mine shipped one out for me today (good guy!) and I plan to activate this on at&t. Here's where I get lost. First thing I need to do is unlock it. I can search here to find and I believe Cory unlocks as well. I will probably use his services. Once this is unlocked, can someone help me with the steps that I need to follow to activate? 1) Unlock unit (3rd party) 2) Do I have to flash the OS with at&t OS? 3) Or do I send at&t service books from BIS login via web directly to handheld once the phone is unlocked? Will that send the service books? If someone would be so gracious as to list what steps I should do, that would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Regards, dolo |
1) Correct
2) No; there is no AT&T released OS to use. It doesn't matter. Find the newest and use it 3) Log in to BIS and change the PIN/IMEI and that should work. You will likely not get some features like MMS, as AT&T may not have the Service Books. |
NJBB - LOOOONG time no speak. Not sure if you remember me but it's been a few years since I've been "really" using a blackberry again. Can't wait to load the 8900.
Hope you are well! |
oh and...
thanks for the insight - as always.

Let us know how it works!
|
Will do. Just got the word that it was shipped out today.
|
Thanks, if it works I might get on on Ebay.

I have one being delivered to me on Monday morning. I will post back and let you all know how it goes on AT&T. This one is a Rogers Unlocked 8900 coming from Canada.

Got it. Waiting to Unlock. Can't Connect to WiFi...
Good news. Got the device.
Getting the device unlocked from Cory (submitted the request about an hour ago.) Bad news - Tried to get on my wifi network. A couple of quick questions. - I input my password for wifi and it says no IP could be assigned - I can't seem to connect to my wifi? - I selected Pre-Shared Key and wifi is running on WPA Personal Anyone have thoughts on how to make it better? Will update. |
FYI resolved this...i had limited the # of users on my router. all good. speed seems to be quite sluggish...

You should be able to load these AT&T generic service books and get the browser, MMS, etc working. If you don't know how, post back and I'll get instructions to you. Books are attached.

Unlocked
Cory - received the codes and I successfully unlocked!
Now, I have to do something tomorrow AM than after that - I will activate the BB. Tried using wifi - works pretty well - noticed it's much speedier on Opera for some reason. Also Google maps won't work until a SIM is installed. ALL - for anyone looking to unlock - Cory's service is great and flawless. Got the code in less than a day. Regards, dolo |
it would have been faster, however the order was place at the end of the day so it took till next morning... sorry about that :)
|
I'd also add
It was one of the best prices out there...(Cory's unlocking service.)
|
Thank you for the kind words Dolo! I appreciate that :)

Hmm..
Tried to create an account via web for ATT BIS. I input device PIN and IMEI and received this error:
This BlackBerry is registered with a different service provider. Please re-register this BlackBerry and verify the URL matches the one provided by your service provider. Do I need to formally speak to an operator before this can happen? Trying to push the service books to the phone.. ATT operators are closed on Sundays... Thoughts, advice? |
dolo email me
i'll take care of that for you |
Sent you an email. Thanks Cory.
