Failed Call. Bold Or 3g
I am currently on thr rogers network in canada and have been getting the failed call error message when trying to make a call it does not happen all the time but often enough to piss me off. Also when ppl try to call me somtime it goes straight to voice mail. So I am wondering does anyone else on the rogers network have the same problem. Is it the phone? Ir the network? Thanks

It is 3G.
Happened on my Motorola RAZR2 (3G) and Samsung SPH-i607 Blackjack (3G). Roger's doing. |
Hummm I was thingking the same thing any more supporters of the theory?

i would try switch it to 2G and yeah you wont have any issues

Having said all that, I know Rogers is still working on expanding their 3g coverage. I wonder if there are any service distruptions during this (one would think so). |
how are they expanding it? they are already coast to coast with 3g, have been for a while

It may be specific to the area your in, I have not had any dropped calls or inbound-to-voicemail or loss of 3G service. I have travelled from Niagara Falls to Scarborough and a lot of places in between.

No you are wrong. I was in Ottawa for Canada's Day, and there was zero 3G coverage. Neither on my phone at the time (Samsung Blackjack), nor on my aircard (Option 3.6GT). In London, in April, the exact same thing. And at work in Whitby, we never had 3G coverage at one end of the area (our area covers 8 acres). But since 3-4 months ago, we have. So clearly, they are expanding it. Not sitting still. |
I've noticed these issues a lot with my phone, I have also been having a lot of data connectivity issues too, but I don't even know where to start with it :(
I'm running the latest beta in the wild, .150. Also, I have had the weirdest problem with rogers, I am on the my5 plan and it seems that often (25% of the time) then I dial one of my favourites I can sometimes get someone completely different, for about 2-3 seconds and then it disconnects. Also, sometimes when one of my favourites call me, they can sometimes get a totally different person also! I've had a curve and a bold do this to me, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Has anyone ever hear of this problem before?? |

rogers 3g network is definitely the issue. their coverage is weak, so change your network settings to 2g and youll be fine.

I'm not in Canada, I Live in Miami, so therefore I cannot comment on Rogers' coverage, however; In Miami (AT&T) I have seen my Bold switch from 3G to EDGE quite frequently, and I have had some dropped calls. There are even areas in my house where clearly I do NOT have 3G coverage, I see my phone losing signal altogether for one second or less (No service appears), this gives you an idea of how spotty the 3G coverage is in Miami (my house is not THAT big...really)

Switching from 3G to 2G is usually the phone issue (unless you happen to be situated at the edge of where the 3G coverage ends).
Try leaving your phone on 3G only. It will cling on for its dear life, and is quite good. The 2.1GHz signal of the 3G isn't as good at building penetration as the 850MHz (2G, EDGE), but for the most part, it works quite well. |

I live in Toronto and I have had a number of failed or dropped calls with my bold. It has been frustrating sometimes.
|
It may be device related because I have not had any dropped calls nor have I seen my BB drop down to GSM/GRPS/EDGE service recently and I have just recently took a trip from Scarborough to Niagara Falls.

I can confirm that 3G seems to be spotty along the 401 between Toronto and Montreal. In the long treks between the small towns, it was all EDGE. Only got 3G in the big cities in between (basically just Kingston and Cornwall IIRC).
It's definitely not on every tower as suggested earlier in the thread. That said, I haven't experienced any dropped calls at all when switching between 3G and 2G. I'm on 4.6.0.147 right now..but even with other fw, no problems at all. giz |
hummm... interesting .... anyone else?

Got my Bold a week ago. So far zero troubles (hope it stays that way). Oh I'm in Vancouver, BC. Though I had LOTS of failed calls on my previous phone, a 2G Motorola. |
wouldn't it be possible to dedicate one of the convenience keys to turn 3g off and on thus eliminate the dropped calls (if you have that problem)? You usually know when you want 3g (browsing, opening big attachments) and just turn it on then, like most people do with BT. There's no advantage to 3g for calls and getting messages.
