new nextel?

Any more ideas on when a new Nextel might be released? Is the 7510 likely to go down in price at that time? Thanks much.

Should go down in price, but it will be a few months before anything releases.

Some people have said on the forum it may even be a different color, such as green or red. Anyways, bb_tech said something about seeing it at work, but when he saw it, it was blue.

If it has bluetooth I am all over it

Yea I dont blame you, I dont know if I can justify spending so much money on a new device already though.

athreya 08-26-2004 06:27 AM

why bluetooth?

Hatax why are you so particular about bluetooth? If it is for a headset the new magnetic induction headsets are as good or better for they dont need line of sight (unlike BT). What else did you have in mind for BT?

Gothalyptic 08-26-2004 09:32 AM

Actually BT doesn't need line of sight of either as most think ;) It's RF technology, which means so long as a signal is going, it's good. Line of sight means it's got to be in sight ;). I leave my V600 upstairs in my holster in my bedroom, usually in my deskdrawer charging at home, with my BT250 on a constant connection, and I've no problems. With Magnetic induction headsets, I'd be a little leery on it if I had a pacemaker of other sort of mechanical/electrical implant lol. Thought I'd throw in my .02 worth.

????

This is for the first time that i have ever heard this.If you goto the specs of any BT headset it always says range is atbest 10-15 feet!

MrCynical 08-29-2004 07:28 PM

I'd look for it in late Nov - early Dec

The story I'm told is that Nextel's holding off on releasing the new handheld until BES 4.0 is ready for release.

Incidentally, I also hear that the BT will be extremely limited in scope. To the point of being only good for wireless headphones, nothing else. Security, security, security.

Gothalyptic 08-31-2004 02:48 PM

That's what it may say, but when it comes to it, BT is radio frequency, which is effected by MANY factors. My phone upstairs any my headset, it maybe 12 feet max in a straight line.

Security is an issue on BT, but not so bad as many think. True there is a thing called BlueSnarffing out there, and BlueJacking. Snarffing would allow someone to see and edit things on your device, jacking is nothing more then a BT push message that says stuff. The biggest risk of the two is snarffing, although most BT devices are capable of 2 way communications this isn't all that much of an issue. Leave BT turned off or hidden helps a lot, off helps 100%. If you have a BT device paired with a headset, and the headset is on and fully paired, no other device can easilly "see" your device. I refuse to own a non-bluetooth phone anymore, except my BB, for the simple fact it is quite secure. Motorola has it right by an automatic turn off on the BT, after 1 minute of inactivity, it's off, only to go out every 5 minutes or so to "search" for a device in it's history to pair to. Even with Bluesnarffing (yes I've tried, yes I've been successful, no not with another persons device, always my own or families devices), motorola has a defense, anything that can be edited, it VERY well hidden from bluesnarffing. My brothers Nokia I could delete anything, including phonebook entries, my V600, there was no way to even SEE them. If the software and chipset is done with care, as Moto has done (hence the late release of a BT phone by them, compaired to other companies), there is little if any security risk.

again just my .02 worth of investigating BT.

I'm a bluetooth freak, I love it love it love it!

MrCynical 08-31-2004 06:46 PM

I can see as how it would be really, really useful, but with the way Nextel's so network security conscious (and this plays into all sorts of things), wouldn't that make them spazed about it?

I'd really like to see it, myself. I can't see how it would be anything but good!

Gothalyptic 08-31-2004 07:17 PM

Yea, Nextel to be honest is the LAST carrier I'd see have a BT blackberry to be honest, would be nice though :)

Heck, just give me GPS, and I'll not only survive, I'll positively DROOL.

rnwjr 09-01-2004 12:08 PM

GPS and NEXTEL... That would be the best....

christiancrowe 09-01-2004 03:10 PM

Blueteeth :D
GPS very 8)!

Imagine how cool it will be when we have mapping and direction software on our Blackberrys.
I have an extra desktop cradle that sits on the dashboard of my car. When it is giving me directions to and from appointments I will be in geek heaven.

rnwjr 09-02-2004 01:44 AM

Yeah! I always have a HP Jornada 568 PPC with me just for GPS... Now it would be great to track and obtain directions... I have a breadcrum trail that follows me all day at work... Can't wait!!!!

There's a pocket full-size folding Bluetooth keyboard available, please post in this thread if you are interested in having this work with Blackberries. I already emailed RIM and ThinkOutside Inc. about this, if you add your post to this thread, this can help. Thanks in advance!

PS -- There is no security difference between a Bluetooth Keyboard and a Bluetooth Headset, just different means of communications;

I talked with a corporate executive at nextel (my buddy knows her) and she said that the new blackberry will be out by the end of the fourth quarter..thats all she would say.

iRoninTMO 09-15-2004 02:40 AM

frogpad, which isn't a keyboard per se, will have PDA and Symbian support by the end of the month according to the frog technologies people

scott 09-25-2004 05:52 PM

I was told by a DAE @ Nextel that the New Blackberry will launch no later than the end of December, I have seen many photos of it of course things could change, I have Seen it in Red, Green, Blue, and Black so I am not sure what the final color will be. Only thing I know for sure is that it will have GPS as Nextel is pushing hard to have every handset be 100% GPS so they can sell their Data Products like TeleNav, Xora, and @road.

yahtzee 09-27-2004 10:10 AM

I am hearing that it will be black, have BT and GPS and be avail before the end of the year.
