Remote access a Linux server - BASH
So a few months ago I saw a guy on a 8703e use like a special BASH on his blackberry and access some linux servers. Anyone know where I can get get this program for my blackberry?
Also I knew an admin but lost contact with him who had a program on his Linux box that monitored specified services/servers (mostly steam), and if the service/server crashed the the program would send him a lvl 1 message and he'd get over to the server and fix the problem. The problem is I lost contact with him before I got my blackberry so I don't know what the name of the program was. Anyone know of what I'm talking about? |
You are referring to a SSH application, not Bash - bash is the shell software running on the remote server. SSH is used to make remote connections to servers and get a commandline where you can get work done. I, for instance, live in SSH sessions every day all day - it's my bread & butter.
There are two - MidpSSH (open source, free, works but isn't the best) and Rove MobileSSH (commercial, works great, a bit expensive). MidpSSH: http://www.xk72.com/midpssh/ Rove MobileSSH: http://www.rovemobile.com/products/ssh/ |
Thx for the links.
Your right, I meant SSH. What about the program that runs on the server to sends notifications? Any idea on that? |

Well the only contact I had with him was over instant messenger. He was the admin on a CS server I played on, I was only a mod so I didn't do anything special but he was one of the co-owners. The setup that they had was 3 boxes 1 a CS server, 1 a Natural Selection server, and the last one was the webserver with the forum and an elaborate configuration on it. All three were linux and each had the monitor running on each box. Now if a daemon stopped working, froze, or restarted itself, he would be notified.
So basically I'm looking for something fairly simplistic. |
