Does this fix the SMS address book bug?
(When receiving a text message it will list the phone number I received the text message from, not the name in the address book. Apparently this is only if you have dashes when you store numbers in your address book)

paramedic233 11-19-2009 01:18 PM

Then the fix is to not store the numbers with dashes...

JSanders 11-19-2009 02:06 PM

Someone try this and see if it does fix the issue with the phone number dashes.

5.0.0.351

PDM 11-19-2009 04:54 PM

The "problem" with dashes still exists...
Not that I see it as a problem as my SMS #'s don't have any dashes...

NJBlackBerry 11-19-2009 05:09 PM

This release has been around for about a week and does not fix the SMS number formatting issue.

That's not a fix, it's a workaround, and a crappy one to boot.

NJBlackBerry 11-19-2009 05:23 PM

VERY crappy. I guess no one tested SMS!

Wirelezz 11-19-2009 06:20 PM

well

worth the upgrade?

Thanks!

No guinea pigs yet? Come on! ;-)

HaTaX 11-20-2009 03:42 AM

Grabbing it now and I'll try it out tomorrow. Hoping to see a few small bugs go away, the spaces & dashes issues affects my caller ID as well as SMS text. I have found that you can use periods "." to space the numbers out and they will work correctly.

Hoping that maybe it gives the 3G or tethering a little speed bump.

e1000 11-20-2009 12:11 PM

Been on 351 for a couple days now. Pretty stable, no big issues that the previous or stock releases didn't have. It does not fix the SMS contact name issue. Seems a bit more stable, I was having the occasional random reboot which seems to have gone away.

wu-wei 11-20-2009 11:29 PM

This build, like the 344 build, doesn't save profile settings across reboots.

The SMS contact resolution is still an issue.

Other than that, it's snappy and stable.

I want some new 9700 themes instead! :D

Thanks for the update - good to know I can roll back if I get a wonky beta.

Very true, but sometimes we might need the original mfr OS. Just in case. ;-)

HaTaX 11-22-2009 02:45 PM

Just loaded .351 last night and am hoping it cures a few bugs I was having with .344. Mainly the media features were acting really goofy. Sometimes I'd lose my ringtones and alerts for everything and I'd have to go into media player, play some music, and then the ringtones all worked. Also if it didn't work and I clicked try it in the profile menu it would tell me it was an invalid ringtone.

Then I was trying to play a video file and the player completely locked up and it took a battery pull before it'd play media again... No good.

I don't use media on my phone much so really it's not a big deal, but I'd rather stay away for battery pulls if I can so I'm hoping this version helps out.

Don't notice too much different from .344 just yet, seems to be a little quicker but that could just be me. Some of the random weirdness that I saw with menus, data operation, etc seems to be much better, but I didn't keep exact track of all the issues I was having.

I'll report back if my media problems disappear now..

SparkzSRT 11-22-2009 11:17 PM

Not sure if this is related, but my SIM Card died about an hour after loading the OS, I'm on T-Mobile

Do you have a 9700? Your profile shows 8900.

Was just writing a retraction. Hasty response on my part. Excitement got the best of me.

kirbo20 11-25-2009 03:32 PM

Does this verison give you the ability to have your BES and you BIS email in separate folders? ie you BIS email doesn't go in to the main message folder.

That's not a feature of any handheld OS version. This is a setting on the BES itself.
Your BES admin would need to configure BES to separate BES email messages into its own mailbox on the handheld.
Such a change would affect all users on the BES, regardless of their device or OS version.

NJBlackBerry 11-25-2009 03:42 PM

Actually.. I now have a new folder called "Desktop" alongside the other BIS message folders. And I am sure that the BES guys haven't changed anything..

Since I actually refer on combined messages folder, I moved it to the bottom next to the other folders.

Hmmm... that's interesting.
Curious to know how that happened.

HaTaX 11-25-2009 03:58 PM

Go into your messages screen and choose options, then main message list settings, inside that menu you can change the behavior of the "Messages" folder. You can choose which email accounts are included in that folder, and then use the separate icons to get at email that's not dumped into the main folder / box / whatever it is... :)

Cool! I might have to install this OS just to play around with that.
I hadn't heard that RIM was even considering this feature.

ndub33 11-25-2009 04:07 PM

This is very cool. Can anyone confirm this is on all builds of 5.0?

It doesn't seem to be in all builds. I don't have this option on my 9700 with 5.0.0.296 unless I'm looking in the wrong spot.... which is entirely possible.

kirbo20 11-26-2009 09:41 AM

I know I had it on Build 5.0.0.314 on the Bold 9000 and I loved it.

kirbo20 11-26-2009 09:50 AM

Unfortunately all the normal places are turing up dead links. Any suggestions?

I can confirm it's in the 9700 5.0.0.344 build.

kirbo20 11-27-2009 10:34 AM

5.0.0.351 Is now official from Rogers.

I can confirm it is in the 8900 5.0.0.348 build... if this helps.

The separate Desktop folder is definitely there on my 9700 with .296. I actually overlooked this and hid it because I was so used to not having a separate folder for BES.

kirbo20 11-28-2009 02:55 PM

That is not we we are talking about. We are referring to the "Main Message List Settings" under Messages then Options. It is not in the at&t build of .296. It is however in the .351 build.

ifonline 11-28-2009 03:50 PM

Ah. I see.
