Auto On/Off - Radio Stays Off

I have been noticing the past few days that my connections would be off.....no bars nothing not even 1x and i would have to use "Manage Connections" to turn them back on.

I have the Auto On/Off feature enabled for weekdays and weekends and realized that the problem is connected. Sure enough....when it powered back on this morning at 6:30 the connections did not come back on and i had to turn them on manually.

Anyone else experiencing this issue???

Yup

I just noticed this too.

I have noticed something peculiar with .75 of the OS. It seems that overnight I stop receiving email. It shows the connection are on but I never see any arrows to indicate anything is sending or receiving. If I use "manage connections" to turn them off and back on I receive all of the mail I have missed all at once.

i put this question out on several other forums and lots of people have the problem but no fixes yet....maybe .75 will fix it.....installing it now

installed .75 last night......looks like it may have fixed it

Going to .75 seemed to have fixed mine for the last couple of days but all the sudden it was off again this morning. One thing I have noticed is that when I manually turn my phone off at night it is fine the next morning but if I let the Auto Off shut it down the Radio is off the next morning and I have to force a call to make it turn back on.

I too have the auto off/on problem. My storm would turn
off at the time I set but not turn on in the morning. I got
mine on the day it lunched on Verizon. Some people posted
about a firmware update, what is the website and will it fix
this problem? I already asked Verizon, and all they can do is
search their knowledge base and say there is nothing wrong
with that function.
Thanks for all of your help

hmmmm....will watch a few days and see if my problem reoccurs......

Watchman.....there is a really thread over at crackberry about an update that is supposedly floating around. I believe it is a sticky in the 9530 forum.

"Official" VZW 4.7.0.75 still has this problem

It is my observation that this is still a problem even with the official 4.7.0.75 release from VZW.

I just "upgraded" and I still have to manually turn my radios back on after the Auto on/off cycle.

Any other comments from those in the know?

Am I alone?

I have upgraded to .75 and now .83 and I still have the problem that after my Storm turns back on after and Auto On/Off re-cycle, my radio is still off.

Is no one else having this problem?

portseven 12-21-2008 05:29 PM

It still does it on .83 - I had this issue this morning.

Also note that when the battery becomes extremely low it turns off the radio to conserve power. When you plug it back in you have to manually turn on the radio. I went half a day before I realized it was not on......

munchkinsdad 12-21-2008 07:35 PM

I have .83 and also have the problem whether it auto shuts off or i manually shut it off. I charge it over night and and when I turn it on or it auto turns on the radio is off.

Also another thing I have a problem with is, when it turns on after completing startup I will get a black Verizon screen and nothing else!
It will even rotate. I cannot access anything on the storm.
If I lock it though, I can see the main screen...as soon as I unlock it again it goes back to the black verizon screen.

I try a battery pull and it will happen again and again...sometimes it will work right.

If I pull the sd card and then try a battery pull it will start up fine.
Sounds to me that perhaps there is a conflict on the card....maybe a pic or music file....
Any thoughts?

I experienced this, multiple restart problem, for the first time tonight. I have nothing to add other than "I feel the pain" as well.

I won't complain at this point as .83 has not been "released".

The Auto off/on- radios off problem has existed in VZW released versions of the OS though.

munchkinsdad 12-21-2008 08:15 PM

I experienced this only once with .75. Now it happens more often. As kong as I pull the card when it acts up it will work fine...as far as I can tell...the card is the issue.

mrmartymac 12-21-2008 08:21 PM

I recall reading in other posts about other issues since the Nov 21 release of the Storm that some people suggested a variety of problems related to the SD card and that reformatting it addressed these issues. Perhaps I will give this a try.

I thought I would share that.

bigdawg73 12-21-2008 11:27 PM

i also am getting this problem. it only started when i updated it to .75 is there anyway i can resolve this problem? I also see others posting about the .83 update. i still have not found that update.

How do you navigate to the radio application?

Click on the "Manage Connections" icon on your home screen.

You will be able to turn the Mobile Network (radio) on or off as well as the Bluetooth.

This might sound strange with the auto on/off function but some observations none the less maybe helping someone. I have the same auto on/off functions as most complain about [many mornings the phone won't wake up the network, the phone itself does though] and over the holiday I spent some time with in-laws in Tampa. While there [almost a week] the phone and radio turned on every morning as it should and when returning home it stopped working again. I noticed that while down there my network connection was much stronger and everything overall seemed zippier. Could this problem be tied to localized tower issues or network speed/congestion?

Steve
