BlackBerry surpass Q3 expectations; Transformation to software-based paying off

Results and Infographic

The phone maker-turned-service provider reported third-quarter results that surpassed analysts’ expectations. Revenue was flat compared to the year-over period at $226 million, but higher than $212.58 million expected by analysts. Adjusted earnings of 5 cents per share was above analysts’ prediction of 2 cents per share.

The Waterloo, Canada-based company is depending heavily on mobile security and enterprise software, which form a major part of its new area of operation. BlackBerry is also venturing into the emerging fields of the internet of things (IoT) and autonomous driving, both of which holds a lot of potential.

If you read the report you will see Chen thinks they are doing very well. When he abandoned the phones and dumped any OS upgrades the future of blackberry dropped into the toilet. What makes him think people wont think he will do the same thing with any software or other products he controls.

When he dropped phones he saved the company.

Might have been better if they dropped Chen and worked better selling the phones.

Because the Zed10 and Q10 and Zed30 were so popular before Chen came aboard. Right.

Look, BB10 failed. That's not an assumption or opinion. Read "Losing the Signal". Dumping phones was the only way to save the company.

I will get the book. It is interesting that companies seem to miss the trends or ignore issues thinking they know better. Reading about Apple iPhone and the problems with warped cases and their refusal to do anything about it seems to be the same direction some have taken before their downfall.

Blackberry stock 2009 to today $75 to 6.91
Apple stock seems to be tanking also, its down $80 in the last few months.

Not sure if you noticed but the entire stock market had the worst month in 10 years. But if you think Apple is tanking, then fine. BlackBerry failed with BB10 (and OS7 was not fixable) and they were late to the game they invented. So software seems to be a way out. Not phones.

Definitely noticed the market. Just wish I did not have any Apple stock. Maybe I can sell the stock for some peaches or apricots

I have a new Z10 in a box just in case mine dies but I'm thinking Samsung next. they seem to have customers in mind and keep up with customers needs.

I have a Note 8. Love it. Family has Galaxy S9s. No issues (except battery life because of the apps we use). Regular security updates. They work.
