Blackberry GPS tool "Spot for Blackberry" now supports Bluetooth GPS devices
 

Our GPS mapping tool "Spot for Blackberry" now supports all Bluetooth enabled Blackberry devices in combination with a Bluetooth GPS receiver.
Former versions did only work on Blackberry 7520 and 7100i which have an integrated GPS receiver.
The range of compatible devices is extended by the 7100 Series, 8700 Series and the 7250, 7290 models.

"Spot for Blackberry" costs 49.00USD. A time limited demo version is available free for download.

Has anyone tried to get Spot to work on an 8700c? I am a Cingular Orange customer with BES. My 8700c has no problems pairing with my Pharos GPS receiver, and Spot seems to be connected to it and receiving data. However, when I try to view/download maps, I get the "trying to connect inside and outside the firewall" error. I dont have any problems with other 3rd Party Apps and accessing the Internet. The permissions for Spot are set to allow, what can I be missing?

which external Bluetooth GPS receiver actually works with 8700C?

I have the Pharos PT-100 which is working fine.

I am trying to pair it with my Dell BT GPS and it will not pair to the 8700C.
The BB detects it as: BT-GPS-01DD8F

When I attempt to pair it, it asks for the Passkey, which there is none. On the computer I just add a new device and connect to the GPS, I do not have to pair it using the 0000 code.

I have been working with the vendor on it over the past couple of days. He sent me a new build that fixes the network access issue, but now I can't get data from the GPS receiver. It seems to connect to the receiver, but isnt receiving any data. I am going to delete the app and the receiver and try to reinstall.

what exactly will this show?
 

i have the GPS recognizing and giving coordinates on my 7130, but i am getting an error saying program is looking in and outside of firewall. will this work with google maps and follow directions. i do not want to go to IT people if this doesnt help on directions.

I don't work for the company, but that was one of my original problems with Spot. Make sure you have the latest and greatest version of Spot, I think it is 1.3.1. They added a setting to use BES/MDS, once that is enabled, you shouldnt see that error message any longer.

the time limited version sucks.. BY time the software gets you zoomed almost to a 4 block area it pops up saying time run out... didnt even get to walk 5 feet with it.

what other brands og bluetooth gps's work with the 7250

I got my belkin gps receiver to pair with my 8700c and to work with spot, but the mapping in spot is really poor, and the timer cut me off before I could really test anything. If it gets better, I would buy it, but not in it's current state

i just got a Holux GPSlim 236 to work with it. i can get my cordinates (long and latt) but im getting the same error message about (inside and outside the firewall) when i go into the map. I did set it to use bes but still no luck....If i could get this to work it would be great... btw im using a 7250 on bell mobility on bes 4.0 with os 4.1 from telstra...

I have a blackberry 7130e and i just purchased SPOT for blackberry. I have a delorme earthmate bluetooth blue logger gps device. My phone can connect the gps unit but it seems it will not receice any data. Anyone have any thoughts on this? thanks

Hey, Shawn: Are you saying that the purchased version of spot should work and zoom in better? The Demo version for me took an eternity to do anything. I have Mapquest and Google Earth now. They at least route you from one place to another.

I'm using a Pretec RBT-1000 connecting to my 7100t (v4.1.0.309)

It works with the demo version, but pulling the maps and zooming is pretty slow.

Thank You, I am a little scared to make the switch from my reliable Mapquest. Only 3.99 a month, and..... lots of neat features. When I am at work my wife can track me (much to some people's dismay). If I am inside I can switch to tower mode and still use it. Most of the time the GPS mode works great, even inside. Spot seems to have a lot of features, but most of those are available on free services. I even thought about TeleNav, but that would cost too much. I have too much $ into this thing anyway. The only thing I don't like about MapQuest is that you cannot see your location coordinates, but the LBS screen shows it for me. From reading all of your posts out there, I am ready to throw my 7520 in the toilet and get a 7100.
