Buttons wont work!!!

Well I put my 8330 in my pocket and pulled it out, no screen or anything so I thought it was off, did a battery pull and turned it back on only to find that none of the buttons would work! The only thing that will work is the trackball scrolling the click does not work however, I always put it into standby mode before I put it into my pocket, I did a warranty claim with alltel as the phone is only 7 mos. old. Does anyone know how or why this would happen? I have made sure that none of the buttons are stuck, and done about 3 battery pulls. Still no dice

Was it exposed to any moisture? Even a little bit? Sweat? Rain? Snow?

j_hamblin 12-16-2008 12:12 AM

Well I did drop it on the ground in a snow storm where the snow wasnt sticking yet but i picked it up and immediatly dried it off, that was 2 days before the buttons quit working, and it didnt really get wet, at least not enough to make way for concern!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 11000 Colosol)

Sorry but this liquid damage for sure. Its common. You dried it out but water did get
in.

j_hamblin 12-16-2008 12:57 AM

hmm thats terrible i hope they wont be able to find that out when i send the old one back for a warranty claim either way I have insurance I just dont want to have to spend the 90 for the insurance clain :(

I have the same situation and I am sure that I did not drop it in water or snow!

Motorcycle Mama 12-16-2008 01:35 PM

Has is been in any high humidity situations?

Nageshwara Manda 12-16-2008 01:38 PM

Possible. But does BB suggest that we should use device in deserts?

Same problem i was told it was the battery cuz i had got a random battery and not a blackberry battery so yea and then told the device is defective so yea... hopefully u have warrenty on your phone

Big O 45 12-17-2008 08:31 AM

Well I have the exact same problem here....but I don't have warranty and I'm pretty sure it hasn't been exposed to moisture....Is there anybody here that can help me with this? Is there a way to fix it yourself?

Nageshwara Manda 12-17-2008 09:51 AM

It worked - Happy moment did not last

Hi,

As advised in the forums, I removed my battery and put it on my car's dashboard and went to work. In the evening, I came back and put my battery back and eureka, my buttons and the track ball started working.

I was very delighted and I was in heavens for solving the problem. But the happiness lasted only for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, keyboard does not respond again.

Other observations:
1. I am not able to take a backup or restore backup. The dektop hangs (4.7V with OS4.5V on device). It stops with device sounding cling.
2. When I connect my device without device manager switched on, I cannot view the files on memory card.

Whats the conclusion - moisture or problem with the device?

Confused!

Regards,
Nageshwara Manda

It looks like I have the exact same problem as you....I left out the battery for about half an hour...and it worked again. About eight hours later, it had the same problem as before...

I was so happy the problem fixed itself. Please let somebody have a solution for this...Thanks in advance!

Okay, well I woke up today to find that my phone's buttons are working perfectly, they have been working ever since, but I do have a new phone coming from alltel Ill prob just swap them out anyways and hopefully they will let me keep the new one. When I looked at my phone it was on the search screen with about 300 characters typed in like it had "caught up" with its self? wierd! I hope it will stay working for at least a day or two more until I get my news one!

I've been having the same problem. When I called AT&T, they first asked about the moisture indicator. To check if there's moisture damage, remove the sim card and look on the wall to the left of it. There should be a paper square. If it's white, then the phone hasn't gotten wet critically. If not...

Big O 45 12-18-2008 04:54 AM

I just checked....the paper square is white....I kinda wish it wasn't, so I at least knew what the reason was....

Moisture indicator

Hi,

Even I find a white little square. I found one more white square near the lens of the camera. I did not drop my BB in water or snow. Why did it happen to this?

Today I tried the same trick of yesterday (putting it on the dashboard) and hair drier. They failed this time.

Now, I have to disassemble and dry it. Let me post after that. :x

Problem solved for me

So I got a little water on the keys yesterday...took out the batter fast and dried it off then put it back together and forgot about it...about 4 hours later i pick it up and only the trackball work and not the keys....so i tired compress air...that didn't work....read this thread....was pretty worried. Anyways so I simply put my laptop (on) in my backpack bag along with my blackberry (back case off) and basically cooked it overnight with the heat from the laptop. woke up about 5 hours later and the blackberry works just fine now. Might not work for everyone...esp if its not moisture and if it is moisture...then if it didn't fry the circuits. Hope this helps someone.
