Unable to install BB Link in Windows 7

I am unable to install Blackberry Link, either independently with the file 123_b055multilanguage.exe or as a component of the Link-Blend-drivers 'Desktop' bundle with the file BlackBerryDesktopSoftware_1.2.0.52_B59.

When I try with the stand-alone file (first one), the process rolls back after almost reaching the end. Sometimes, I get a pop-up message from "PeerManager.exe" stating that "libxpmux.dll" is missing.

A web search revealed that the .exe is part of the Blackberry software and the dll error can be corrected by downloading and installing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015. On the Microsoft download page, there were two file options - .x64.exe and .x86 exe. Since my laptop is a 32-bit Windows 7 machine, I thought .x86 might be the right one. I downloaded and installed it. Then tried to install Link again, but it failed to install once again.

Help would be really appreciated. My Passport is in very bad condition. I need to back it up, and then reinstall the OS urgently.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Unable to install BB Link in Windows 7

PeerManager is a program loaded by Blackberry to manage and control the Link software. Sadly it can be detected as a virus by some Anti virus software and cause issues. It can also be a version that was loaded by virus or Trojan software and not the real version.
I would fully delete the Link software and look for a file called peer manager and delete that also. Downloading a new clean version from only Blackberry may be the safest way to go.
I added a couple of links I found on the internet relating to your problem. They are only for info and I would also look for others to fully understand the problem.

What is PeerManager.exe?

Thanks a lot, @tsac. I'll do these things and check the links.

Re: Unable to install BB Link in Windows 7

After cleaning out residual RIM folders from C-drive, I re-installed the 1.1 version of Link (file name 110_b038_multilanguage.exe) that is offered for download on the Blackberry web site, and was then able to update to a newer version. There was no roll-back at the end of the process.

But there was a problem with the desktop shortcut. I tried to fix it, and then restart the computer following instructions from the Windows software. After rebooting, I found the programme had vanished in 'All Programs' - its folder was still there in the list, but it was empty.

I opened Revo Uninstaller. An entry was still there for Link, but with 0 mb size. I did an uninstall nevertheless. Many entries were deleted. Went back to C>Progam Files and C>Program Files>Common Files to double check. Sure enough, RIM folders were still there. Was able to delete the one directly under Program Files, but not the one under Program Files>Common Files. Even after killing two BB processes in Task Manager (PeerManager.exe and another one ... can't recall the name) the folder refuses to get deleted - apparently something in it is being used somewhere. Therefore, I haven't tried installing Link again. Will try to delete this folder first.

I had trouble deleting this folder last time as well, but managed somehow. This time it seems pretty intractable.

Ok, I was finally able to get rid of that folder, install Link 1.1 again, and update to Link 1.2.3.48 off the Blackberry site. But Link does not see my Passport when I connect it with the USB cable. Thinking there's something wrong with the cable, I thought I would try syncing through wifi, and wanted to sign in, but that functionality is not working even though my wifi is fine - all web sites, including Blackberry's, are opening and things are downloading without a hitch.

Re: Unable to install BB Link in Windows 7

My guess is you have something else going on with another application interfering with the app.
Try connecting with a cable to the phone and do a power off or battery pull still connected and see if it shows up once it is fully powered. Log into the phone if you have a password first.

You can also try a different USB port on your computer if available.
I have never had good luck with WIFI.

Keep in mind that Blackberry Desktop software vs. Link were both designed to manage the phones but Link was offered after windows 10 was released. I have used both on windows 10 but I'm not sure Link will work fully if at all on Windows 7

Link works on 7

there is a path statement that needs to be entered or it will fail to connect, at least that what made it work for me and still functions for my playbook.
