It charges extremely slow..

Compared to my old 8300, the USB charging of 9700 takes forever. It has been plugged for an hour, it hasn't even moved up one tick in the battery display. The charging indicator (lightning) is there, so I know it is charging.

What is the problem? Is it because the battery capacity/life is longer, that's why it is taking forever to charge via USB? Is it because of 3G? I will turn it off and try again.. But something is not right.

Mine seems to charge faster than my old. 8320. Did you try another outlet

Instead of looking at the charging indicator, go into options and look at the battery charge (options > status). See if changes after 20 minutes or so. If not, try a hard reset (pull the battery for about 30 seconds). Another thing to look at: try different USB ports.

I charged it on outlet only the day I got my BB, I will have to wait until I drain the battery and then try it out.

aiharkness, does the battery status normally go 10% increments, or should it go 1 by 1? It seems to remain at %60 now, if it was real time, shouldn't it go at actual percentage? Maybe RIM did not program it that way?

I don't know the percentage increment that causes a change in the battery indicator icon. I imagine your general idea is correct -- that the fraction shown by the battery icon should more or less reflect the actual charge.

You said you had left it for a while and didn't see any change. I agree that you should see some change, at least after 15 or 20 minutes, never mind waiting an hour to check. I was thinking maybe -- just a SWAG -- that the indicator wasn't changing even though the battery was charging, and thus the thought of doing a battery pull.

OK, I left it charging for a while, and I watched the percentage instead of battery status on home screen. I noticed that it charges much faster after %60. But from %20-30 to %60 it takes much longer compared to time it takes from 60 to 90.

The 9700 seems to charge pretty quickly in the pod/cradle in comparison to the Storm 2. Both are less than two hours from 20% to full though.

I also need to get a pod, which one do you have? Amazon has bunch of them at $10, but I can't tell if they are all OK or not.

The ones sold by Blue Harbor Online (also sold through Amazon) are definitely the OEM ones. I've bought two 8900 and one 9700 OEM charging pods from them. They're generally in the $9-$12 range.

Thanks, the pods can't sync, right? Only charging.
