Can't connect to BIS over Wi-Fi. Tryied absolutely everthing.
Hello all,
I am having issues connecting from my 9700 device to BIS over Wi-Fi. My app: 5.0.0.586 Carrier: Orange - Romania So, I am using an OpenBSD box as a "router" providing wireless connectivity for my HTC device (works fine), laptop (works fine), Nokia device (works fine). For authentication I am using WPA2 PSK. Using my BB 9700 I can connect to the wireless router, I get DHCP IP and DNS servers, everything seems to be ok on the connection side. Unfortunately, I am not able to get "the white wi-fi icon". I have checked Wi-Fi Diagnostics and I am unable to connect to rpc.eu.blackberry.com:443. I can connect to that address from the router itself, from my workstation, from my laptop etc. So the ISP is out of the scheme. Since I get an IP, DNS, default gateway, etc.. the authentication to the wi-fi router works fine so this also is out of the scheme. I tried pinging the wi-fi gateway... well here I get timeouts. Lots of them. I can't ping the wi-fi gateway, I can't ping the device from the gateway either. So this must be a BB issue. I monitored the connection with TCPDUMP, when I'm pinging the gateway I can see the echorequest to the gateway from my bb, I can see the gateway(router) responding with and echoreply but on my device I only see a timeout. tcpdump -ni ral0 host 192.168.6.7 tcpdump: listening on ral0, link-type EN10MB 23:48:10.912967 192.168.6.7 > 192.168.6.66: icmp: echo request 23:48:10.913026 192.168.6.66 > 192.168.6.7: icmp: echo reply 23:48:15.918698 192.168.6.7 > 192.168.6.66: icmp: echo request 23:48:15.918744 192.168.6.66 > 192.168.6.7: icmp: echo reply 23:48:20.991840 192.168.6.7 > 192.168.6.66: icmp: echo request 23:48:20.991880 192.168.6.66 > 192.168.6.7: icmp: echo reply I can connect to my neighbours wi-fi router, the BIS works from his router(wi-fi icon white). We use the same authentication, we use the same ISP, same DNS settings. My router uses a Ralink RT2560 minipci wireless card. ral0 at pci0 dev 12 function 0 "Ralink RT2560" rev 0x01: irq 9, address 00:11:09:af:64:08 ral0: MAC/BBP RT2560 (rev 0x04), RF RT2525 I will paste the Reports from both my and my neighbours wi-fi diagnostics screen. I can't do (check) anything from here on. I guess I did all I could think of. Maybe you guys have something to say about this. Maybe I sould send this to some "official" issue department, I don't know... HELP !! |
Your diagnostics state that it is connected to the router. = "network acquired".
Do you have a blackberry data plan? As it increasinly more apparent you need one to get the correct wi-fi service books, to browse using wi-fi. |
Yes, I have one. I am using a company BB.
|
Is it activated on a BES?
|
I guess, since it is working on my neighbours wifi. It should work on mine too.

I found some other people facing the same problem with exactly the same hardware as mine. It seems like blackberry is having some issues connecting to our routers. Even with encryption off I am still unable to ping the gateway :(
Here is the link, I have to break it somehow because I can't post links yet. https : // forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=18545 |
