Blackberry Thunder to launch Q3

BlackBerry Thunder, the touchscreen BlackBerry wexxx8217;ve all been waiting for | The Boy Genius Report

Interesting that it's a Verizon exclusive. Personally I would never take a total touchscreen device over a keyboard, but I know some wanted this.

Interesting...

I will pass

Lifetime exclusive with Verizon? Instant failure. Verizon will lock down this device so hard that any cool or innovative feature will either be disabled, or charged a premium for.
I personally hate carrier exclusives. All they do is make certain carriers money and does no service what so ever to the consuming public. I guess RIM really is trying to be more like Apple.

Meh, it just means that the ATT version will be the 9600 or something.

I would get one just to play with but the Verizon exclusivity is a deal killer for me. Oh well.

Verizon locks one thing down and you make it out like they lock everything out a a device. why dont you get off that soap box now. Its real old already

Interesting. Thanks for the link.

I can't see them launching 3rd quarter this year. BGR thinks it will run on the new 4G LTE, but that slated for 700MHz and that isn't do to be rolled out for several years.

I hope you're right.

9000 Ftw!

shivers316 05-13-2008 09:31 AM

Cute device, but I like my keyboard.

Verizon has been locking down features for years. "One thing"? Give me a break.

juwaack68 05-13-2008 09:50 AM

Just a quick word here - let the Verizon thing go and stay on topic.

This doesn't need to get into a flame war.

jsconyers 05-13-2008 09:54 AM

Regardless if Verizon has locked down features such as GPS in the past. A lot of their customers complain that they have to wait for new devices after they've been out on other carriers for a while. This is a step in the right direction for them. This should please a lot of their customers.

Personally, I need a full QWERTY keyboard. I don't care much for touch devices. However, everyone is different. Let's all hope this is successful so we see more devices launched with Verizon.

Name something other than GPS that is locked out of BB devices? And technically its not locked you can use it you just have to pay for it.

sniperkj 05-13-2008 10:58 AM

Touch screen is cool, but they should have kept the keyboard with it.

Blackberryer 05-13-2008 11:36 AM

I don't understand the allure of a BB without a keyboard. ONe of the reasons I'm probably switching back to the 9000 after owning an iPhone for most of the year is I miss having a physical keyboard (and my email PUSHed.)

BBSwany 05-13-2008 01:16 PM

Verizon?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Ditto

I think it looks a bit like an HTC TyTN...
