It means the jad file isn't ported for blackberry, so blackberry won't recognize it. This is at least my guess. I experience the same thing for OTA downloads that aren't blackberry specific.

MCRULES 09-10-2004 12:55 PM

re

so is there any OTA that you know off???
from the links from this site??
mildet.org ect?????
I also want to bring to your attention.................
if you bought magmic games keep the activation codes.
when you upgrade software you go back to trial mode!!

eradis 09-10-2004 01:08 PM

2 things. How are you trying to download? WAP Browser, or Blackberry Browser. I assume midlet.org doesn't have the correct provisioning to convert jar/jad files to RIM cod files. 2nd if the apps try to access secure blackberry APIs they need to be signed.

re

I tried both!!
I've read that some people said they downloaded ..ex..space invaders""
on mine I can't ............... (n)
maybee cause it's a 7280???
I was hopeing for an ez fix!!

Taking a look at the site, unless you are on a BES ( with MDS enabled and the convert jar/jad files to cod turned on), you can't do the OTA thing. Your next option is to get the RIM JDE and use it to convert it, and load it via javaloader or desktop manager.

re

I can Ota because of my new software.... just cant run them once they show on home screen........

where do i go to get the RIM JADE to do the convertions??

eradis 09-10-2004 01:54 PM

Yeah, thats a lot of questions. Depending on the Midlet, they use specific device APIs that you can't use on a blackberry. E.g. Nokia has special UI APIs and you can't run those on a blackberry. That is one of the big misconceptions, unless the application is truely a J2ME app ( i.e. only using CLDC, and MIDP ) can it be portable across all j2me devices.

Hopefully that makes sense if not I'll try to explain further. You can get the RIM JDE from www.blackberry.com/developers but beware this is a development environment tool for development.

First of all, with the recent Rogers upgrades to the back end I can now OTA download WITHOUT bes.

I exepct other carriers to follow suit very soon...

secondly, i download TONS of jad/jar files NOT written for the blackberry and they work just fine!

There are a lot of apps that do not work, and lots that do..
