Tethering on Rogers, Outlook RPC Not Working

Hello,

Our BBs are connected via BES10 on the Roger's network.

I can tether to Rogers with the USB cable - with almost no problem. PCs connect to Z10s with USB cable, active Internet Tethering and we are off to the races - so far no issues.

The only problem that I have is, when one wants to load Outlook 2010 on their PC. Outlook 2010 connected over HTTP/RPC will not connect when it's tethered. My Outlook client works just fine on all other networks, so I know Outlook is configured and working properly.

Has anyone else seen this? It's almost like Roger's is blocking this.

Is there any ports that Rogers is blocking via the tethering process? This is the only problem I have when tethering.

Thanks
Neil

Yes, I've seen it. T-Mobile used to port restrict. I had to open a VPN connection before things would work.

I too tried loading our VPN and trying then. No go, exact same result.

The VPN didn't connect?

The VPN connects, and I can access internal resources, however Outlook still does not function.

It's almost like Roger's completely blocks those IP ports.

If you're on the VPN, Rogers has no control on the ports.

1st of all, Outlook 2010 doesn't require a VPN connection to work, if you're using a FQDN to resolve the Exchange server. I'm on Koodo and I can do this via Hospot with Outlook 2010. I have not tried with tethering, so it is possible that it may not work, but I'm guessing Outlook can't resolve the server, because of a domain or FQDN issue.

In Outlook, when you setup the server connection, do you use the server name or the IP address? Are you on a VPN with your PC, or not? Need to know more to troubleshoot.

You can also go to the Microsoft site here to fully test your Exchange server...

Also, you don't need to run Outlook 2010 via Http or RPC, it will run without any of that even if you're not on a VPN. That wasn't the case with prior versions, but it is with 2010.
