Knowledge Sharing - Verify Hardware + System Requirement prior BES Domino 5.0 upgrade
Sharing. Check & double-check before you embark upgrading. You don't want your BES to crash due to lack of system resources.

The requirements are for a BlackBerry Enterprise Server environment that includes users that receive 100 to 200 email messages each day. You can improve the performance and reliability of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by installing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server components on multiple computers. If your BlackBerry Enterprise Server environment supports up to 1000 users, install the BlackBerry Configuration Database on a computer that is separate from the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If your BlackBerry Enterprise Server environment supports up to 2000 users, install the BlackBerry Configuration Database and the BlackBerry Administration Service on computers that are separate from the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. It doesn't mention whether or not BAS or the DB was one of the installed components for the hardware requirements. With that said, 2GB of memory should be more than sufficient if the only function it is performing is the BES core components for up to 500 users. BAS is the huge overhead for BES 5.0 and as they add more functionality to it, I would imagine that a 64-bit server with a ton of RAM would be key in stability.
