Is there not going to be a seperate group/heading for the 9780?

Figured as much, just thought I would ask as the 9600 series has two forums.

I believe that because one is the bar style [tour and bold 2], the other the clamshell style.

Yes. Two very different devices. The 9700 and the 9780 are nearly identical.
