noobie question: JAR games

hi guys
i'm just curious, why are some JAR games only
compatible with selected cellphones?

other then the display size, should it really matter?
after all it is J2ME right?

I don't really know but only some work on the Pearl.

Most I've tried do not but every once in a while I find one that works.
