8800: Screen locks, asks for password....How do I remove the screen locking feature?

I bought a used Blackberry 8800...First time user.

I put my sim card in and it asked to set a password which I set.

The phone works fine but after roughly 1 minute the screen will lock and it will ask me to enter my password.

I took it to AT@T because I had a problem where my contacts (address book) did not transfer so they did that for me. When I asked the guy about the screen lock he said it will always be like that because the prior owner installed something and only the guy who installed this screen lock feature can unlock (only he has the key!).

I don't think this is true.

Is there a way to unlock or get rid of this screen lock feature???

Wirelessly posted

The password enable/disable setting in in the device options.

If there is an IT policy on the device it is likely you cannot disable the password until you remove the policy. Do a search on 'remove IT policy'.

Does anybody no how to bypass the screen lock on bb with out erasing any dataa?? There's gotta be a way to get past the screen lock, I highly doubt devices would be junk if someone forgot their pass code. If you no how to please let me no.

1 - You are correct. The device is not forever unusable if the password is unknown.

2 - The answer to your first question is it can't be done.

Nope. Can't get around it. that is one of the features that makes the BB more secure than other devices. If you can't get to the options menu then you are outta luck. Same if there is an IT policy as Rambo mentioned above.

The device won't be junk, it will just erase all data and 3rd party apps on the device. But then you would still have the password lock.
