After only 3 days, my 4th 8300 has a butt load of dust under the screen! I will not even consider the 8320 because it will have the same problem.

Back to the 8800 which has much better build quality!


OK, now lets here from everyone of you in denial, saying my has no dust! Take it out in the sun with the screen off and see it! <vbg>

I have zero dust, as well as 10 other 8300 floating around the office.

Very hard to believe that I have had 4 in a row and you have 10 with zero dust. But I am glad for you and you must not use your device outside in the sunlight!

Sorry to hear about your problem. A few others have posted here with similar problems, but as far as I can tell, this is the exception out of the enormous number of 8300's that are already out in the field for a few months. I've had mine since the first unlocked ones started becoming available, and a couple of companies I know have dozens of them - and I have yet to run into this problem myself (or heard of it directly from any associates). I have no doubt that it's maddening, and I know it would make me crazy. But I really believe it's an unusual problem overall.

My old 8800 was certainly solid - but so is my Curve. So far, it's rock solid, and still feels like new after several months of hard use. In and out of my pocket, car, OEM case or naked - and no dust, squeaks or rattles. Just like new.

Seems odd that you would run into 4 of these problem units in a row, considering that most people never run into this problem. I wonder why you're experiencing this...:?

Greg, do I detect a slight dose of anal retentiveness? ;-)

Are you exchanging each 8300 at the same retailer? You 'could' be getting each new one from the same batch as the previous. Just a thought, see if you can actually get one from another batch, or another store?

sorry to say it Greg but I have zero dust as well. I turned off my BB and took it out in the sun and no dust.

Do you throw your BB in your pocket ?

I wish that were the case but I have got 2 from the retailer, one from ebay and one from ATT on the internet. They were not all MFG in the same place or came from the same place!

Prove this. I consider this guilt by association at the best, a logical fallacy.

Personally I'd say I had a better gripe with my first Curve, which would randomly reboot while I was in the middle of a call, so a little dust under the screen hardly seems to be a huge deal ... to me.

I'm completely happy with my replacement Curve, no dust under this screen and I don't think I'd be that pissed about it anyway, as it's my favorite BlackBerry so far. Heck, it's my favorite phone, and for me that's saying something.

But, no single device is ideal for every user, so just because it's not working out for you doesn't mean it's a POS. It's just not the right device for you. No big deal. I won't judge you because you would rather use an 8800. A BlackBerry is better than anything else in my book anyway. Heh.

Interesting post - I am just (tomorrow) replacing my 8800 for the 8310 as although i have only had the 8800 for 1 x week and absolutely love it, i also wanted the xtra features which the 8310 offer's

Reading this and also in general am i making the right choice or will i be dissapointed, changeing from my nice Shiny Black 8800 to a more standard Silver 8310?

And i would no expect dust issues?

Considering they will have the same exact construction, little proof is needed.

I call BS, this is conjecture and not fact. Once released to the public and we all tear them apart to compare it may - at that point - hold true and become fact, but at this stage you are making a logic jump based on facts not in evidence.

(I'm being lighthearted here, don't take me with a frown - just can't stand an obviously bad argument from a debating standpoint to go unchallenged)

I agree with rivviepop to a point, although it is a fair assumption by greg that this could still be an issue. I would hope that RIM knows of this issue and made the appropriate changes to correct it with the new model.

The dust is one of the reasons I quit using BBs in the first place. I just couldn't live with a device that had quality issues, given how much I paid for it.

I am back to BB now, but am extremely disheartened at the dust issue. I have a Curve but have put it into a drawer and bought an 8800 so I don't have to be so worried about something like dust lowering the resale value.

I agree that it seems less likely that the 8800 will have the same problem.

wow. some people.. how hard is it take take of the front housing(2 screws) and blow out the dust anyway.
