Abnormal battery drain

I have a 1.5-month-old Curve 8320 from TMO with 4.5.0.69 beta OS. It's been working great till couple days ago. Out of the blue (no configure change or new apps installed), its battery started draining fast since last Sat. with just regular phone use (no multimedia play or record or data connection).

After a full overnight of charge to 100%, today after 2 phone calls that totaled about 2 mins and a quick browse of text messages. The battery is now 30% just 10 hours after it's disconnected from the charger.

What could be the cause? With Li-Ion battery I always try to keep it near 100% to prolong battery life. And the phone is relatively new at 1.5 months. So the only thing I can think of is abnormal battery drain by the phone. Any suggestions to fix it?

TIA!

Ehien

First thing that came to my mind was your using a Beta OS.

I've been running 4.5.0.55 on mine for a while now and have not had problems with the battery.

I updated to 4.5.0.69 around the 3rd day of ownership so the device's running this beta OS for almost 1.5 months without such problem. Something is wrong just these couple days...

Have you been working with blue tooth?
I turned my blue tooth off and that really
helped with battery drain.

BT has been off. But I just checked background running applications and I saw a few I used couple nights ago like camera, video cam, Now Playing, Browser, etc. Just did a reset with Alt-Shift-Del. Hope this solves the problem. We'll see tomorrow...

Wirelessly posted

Don't feel bad as I have the same problem as you with the .69 software. My battery sucks. I have been hunting for .81 but have been unable to locate it. I am hoping AT&T release it in the am.

I've had .69 loaded for about 3 days now... If anything, my battery life seems better rather than worse. But, i haven't used it that heavy in the last few days and my BB is an 8310.

Maybe it's just a hiccup or the result of certain power-hungry processes running on background.

So far this morning, after unplugged from charger for 2 hours, the reported battery is still 100%. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the same problem doesn't happen again.

For the last 1.5 months, my 8320 has been running well with .69 beta. I hope to keep using it. BTW, isn't .81 released by BB already but is actually .55, an older version compared to .69 beta?

Well, the cause of earlier fast battery drain is still unknown, but at least my Curve is now back to normal after reset. Today after 15hr of operation (mostly standby with light web surfing, calling, and Google Map use), the battery level was still 85%. Hope the problem doesn't happen again.

It's back...

Well it happened again today. At the same time yesterday when it was still 90% battery, it's only 50% today. Strange thing is that the phone was used less today than yesterday. Both were fully charged overnight.

Strange strange strange...

Same here

I've just got my Curve on Wednesday, but last night I charged it to 100%, and I remember unplugging it at 10:10 PM.
Woke up at 7:43 AM with a 20% battery.

Somehow it lost 80% of its charge in 9.5 hours!
I'm on .69 that I upgraded to on Wednesday when I got it.

Just checked background apps:
Mail
Phone
Browser
BB Messenger
Google Talk
Gmail
are the only ones running.

Donno what's going on.
The only thing different than my 8700c is the Gmail (red icon) vs. mail by Google (blue icon).

You might try closing Google Talk and Gmail then see if the battery drain is less significant?

I can live without Gmail in the background all the time, but Gtalk is an IM, and I really need it.
I "exited" Gmail and will see how it does.
