BES 4.1 with a SQL Cluster(Named Instance) and non-default SQL port
 

Well, it's been fun, but I finally have my 4.1 BES server (UAT testing) fully functional. As most of you are aware, 4.1 doesn't support SQL instances, which if you have a SQL cluster to connect to, you have SQL instances.

Prior to installing/upgrading to BES 4.1, you'll need to install the MS SQL Client tools and using the SQL Network Client Tool, create an Alias for your SQL cluster, pointing to the instance, and SQL port which you use.

You should then be able install your BES 4.1 server, with MDS as well, using the Alias name you created.

After the installation is complete, most likely the Apache Tomcat Service won't stay running. Now you'll have to drill down to x:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry MDS Services 4.1.0\jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9\conf and open up the Server.xml file (I just use notepad), then Find and Replace 1433 with what ever your correct SQL port is. Save the changes, and you then should be able to start the service, and have it stay running.
