Color Pearl for 4.5 OS (POLL)
I want to gauge how much interest there is in a program like METFAN's that would allow you to set the color of the trackball on the pearl for those of us with OS 4.5
Also, feel free to post ideas of what features you would like to see in such an application. No guarantee's here folks. I'm moderatly versed in a few languages and Java is not one of my strong ones. I have started playing with the 4.5 JDK and I have a very quick test of this started. By the end of this weekend I will know for sure if the trackball color can still fully be controlled. BTW: This would be a free application though I will gladly accept donations :) For those not familiar with METFANS application, here is the thread on it: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...8100-only.html |
Oh, we already know one "YES" vote will come from JC ;)
|
Yea, i'd use it.
|
OF COURSE i'm for this!
everytime someone saw my 8100 they were always so jealous that i had a colored trackball. |
I am waiting for this to upgrade Pearlberry to 4.5. One of the most envied app I must add.
|
I want to know who actually voted no?

Wirelessly posted (8100 Pearl)
I would vote yes. But as an added feature it should automatically answer all my emails correctly!! ;) |

I would most definitely use it. It would be great to have it working on 4.5 (one of the few things I dislike about 4.5) |

OK
I have confirmed I can control the color of the trackball however I am having issues. The method for doing so is to set a "pattern" (for example, turn RED for 500ms then GREEN for 500ms). Setting some of the duration values too low or too high seems to make the trackball not change color at all. Setting a pattern with only ONE color does not work. Setting a pattern of something like RED for 500ms, then RED again for 500ms does not work. So my only thought now is to set the color and keep re-setting BEFORE the duration I originally set runs out. This appears to be possible as I have been able to set a color to run for at least a minute so the process doing the reset would not be a huge HOG. Also, the 4.5 OS seems to force a backlighting of the trackball on so the color is washed out. Did MetFANS do the same thing? I didn't think it did as I remember setting mine to almost blood red and it worked. If i do that on 4.5 OS it looks almost pink until the backlight turns off. |
Yes, Metsfan's did that too. I used a small piece of black tape to cover the white LED after installing the app. When I installed 4.5 and removed colorpearl it took me a few minutes to figure out why the trackball wouldn't light up! ;-)
|
But am i right, it never did that with like os 4.2 did it?
|
Ok, color me stupid. It must have been washed out back then too but I never noticed it because I used red. Blue is not as "bold" as red.
|
Yeah, it always washed out if you didn't cover the white led. If you can figure out a way to NOT light the white one that'd be great!
|
So I don't want to steal Metfans name and call this thing colorperl 2.0. Looking for name ideas.
|
That's a tough one...How would you rename Jello?
