BBM- US to CANADA. Cost?
 

Hey,

I'm going to the US and I'm just wondering if it costs anything to use my bbm while I'm there. My carrier is Rogers. I know it costs to use regular text msging but I have a nearly unlimited data plan, so it shouldn't cost anything extra should it? If this is the case, how do I enable only BBMs and disable everything else so as not to be charged for roaming? If anyone could help me out that would be GREAT!

There is no international fee for BBM, but you'll need to check into data costs, and get an international BlackBerry data plan from your carrier, assuming it offers one. There is no way to enable BBM only. You can disable all data and have only the phone enabled.

I'm with Rogers. They offer a $10/month data add-on that allows you to use your data in the states. If you have a sms plan, you shouldn't have to worry about receiving sms's, just don't reply to them. Some sms packages allow you to sms to the usa for no added cost (from canada, anyways). Call *611 and ask a rep and they should be able to tell you or transfer you to someone who can. You'll be able to use any data apps and email (uses data plan) for calls, you can use IM+ on appworld ($30 - uses data or wifi) for voip calls to skype users, landlines or cells. Not sure of rates. As for calls, just don't answer the phone. Use a great north american calling card online company, they're at JustDial.ca (call to buy minutes @ 1-800-649-8583 or 604-638-8226 (BC) faster than their online forms) you don't need a PIN number and calls are usually 2.5Cents/min (just use a payphone to call back missed calls - they use local access numbers all over north america and they list them all on their website)
