Resend your service books.

surfandstrum 07-05-2008 09:31 PM

how do I do that? sorry for the basic question...

John Clark 07-05-2008 09:39 PM

Use the setup internet email icon on your device. Or log into the BIS system from your PC.

surfandstrum 07-05-2008 09:47 PM

Thank you, thank you, thank you...all good...

Harminator 07-05-2008 10:08 PM

Ok, I made it all the way to step 6.

I plug in the BB to the computer. Start DM.
I cannot get DM to see the BB. I've tried auto detect in the options settings, but it won't connect.

Done a battery pull.
Rebooted the computer.
Still nothing.

Any ideas?

John Clark 07-05-2008 10:10 PM

Try reinstalling the Desktop Manager again. Don't uninstall it first, just run the install setup again.

Harminator 07-05-2008 10:20 PM

Ok, I'll try that. Do I need to go thru all the steps again after I reinstall?

John Clark 07-05-2008 10:22 PM

Not if all you do is run the installer again for Desktop Manager. You will have to remove the vendor.xml file again, though. If you run the OS installer again you will have to do it over again.

Harminator 07-05-2008 10:38 PM

Ok, reinstalling got me connected again. Now I can finish up.

Thanks.

Wirelessly posted (8310 Curve)

Did you make sure the button to detect USB was checked and Not the COM button

John Clark 07-05-2008 10:38 PM

It seems something in the OS installation corrupts the drivers. Not sure what it is.

Harminator 07-05-2008 11:09 PM

Got all the way thru. Now I just need to figure out which themes to keep...

Exactly. Per my reading of JC's original post, the only purpose of editing Blackberry.alx is to make all themes available, including those used by other vendors. If I'm not interested in those themes, then I don't know if there's any other reason for this step. Next time, I plan to skip it and see what happens.

It's ridiculous...

...that we even have to do this to free up memory. RIM really needs to figure this out.

Agreed. End users shouldn't have to mess with alx and cod files. Neither should they have to have less available memory due to features they can't remove. At the very least, the DM should give the user more control than it currently does. Meanwhile, JC's method is a real gift to the BB community.

Thanks for the fabulous tutorial!

I had this problem yesterday as well. I didn't have to do anything, it was working this morning.

warrenlin 07-06-2008 04:16 PM

JC, Thanks for the guide.

kgambino 07-06-2008 05:43 PM

Again, John, you have come through for me. I have subscribed to this thread and will follow your instructions when my brain recovers from the "mush" stage. Thanks so much.

sgansari 07-08-2008 04:01 AM

Amazing!

Thanks John! You did wonders to my BB, which was giving me a lot of trouble with loss of email, etc.!! Excellent advice!
