Download an older 8700 OS from somewhere, install it, copy the file out of it and then uninstall the OS again. I just keep copying and pasting it into newer OS's each time I upgrade.

k this is really weird i noticed that when i have my phone set to the vibrate profile my sms messages don't vibrate they just set off the indicator light. So i went to advance, vibrate, sms, when i click EDIT nothing happens the edit menu doesn't open up. But yet i've checked the other profiles and the EDIT works fine on them. Any ideas?

You need to go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\Shared\Loader Files

John Clark 02-22-2008 12:02 PM

To all using CDMA devices such as the 8130, 8830, etc. I don't have one of these to test so edit at your own risk. Many of the files are different on the cdma devices. I do know that you don't want any of the tmo myfaves apps loaded or it will cause problems. There may be other problems as well.

Thank you

Thank you for this post. As a result of your advice i managed to free up an extra >3 megs of precious memory.

Also I am on an 8830 and I deleted the following.
- pre installed media
- verizon theme
- VAD

regards.

Is there any way to delete facebook from the blackberry?
My 8100 has it, and seeing as I don't even have a facebook account, I don't see the point in keeping that lame icon on my screen taking up my memory =P

John Clark 02-22-2008 04:57 PM

It's likely just a service book. You can delete it from Options >Advanced Options >Service Book. It may come back. If it does, just hide the icon. It takes up only a byte or two. It's very small.

mizditz101 02-22-2008 05:01 PM

Service books is the only place I didn't think of looking.. go figure!
I'm assuming then that it would be BC_Virtual_Preload_Facebook lol
(and after deleting it, yeah, that's what it is)

And a few bytes could be life or death! ;) And I just hate that the icon is there, even hidden, when I don't use facebook. It's like they're telling me, you MUST use facebook! :P

Rheopaipo 02-23-2008 05:46 AM

I really want to try this but I must be an idiot because I can't find the Shared folder! I thought it was hidden but even when I showed the hidden files, it wasn't there.

hdawg 02-23-2008 07:55 AM

This: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files

doesn't exist for you?

mriff 02-23-2008 09:41 AM

Sorry if this has been answered already in this thread, but in general how much memory does one need to have around before worrying about having too little. (Not even sure if I stated that right  )

John Clark 02-23-2008 12:02 PM

I start worrying about anything below 15.

mriff 02-23-2008 12:13 PM

Great. Thanks. I hover around 20 or so.

SteveO86 02-23-2008 02:21 PM

Quick question, my 8830 has version 4.2.2.66, I know they released version 4.2.2.167 (I'm not sure on the exact version #) but do I have to upgrade to that version first or can I install the OS on my computer remove what I don't want and then plug in and upgrade? Is either of those methods safer or recommended?

John Clark 02-23-2008 02:35 PM

You'd need to install the 4.2.2.66 version to your computer. I recommend upgrading, though. There have been MANY fixes since that version.

TeritaM 02-23-2008 02:39 PM

I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong, I tried to delete voice activated dialing, got rid of all the files listed, ran the application loader, and the icon is still on my screen. when I click on it, it comes right on and works. I'm lost. going to try again but do you have any suggestions?

John Clark 02-23-2008 02:40 PM

Must have missed a file in there.

aok5 02-23-2008 02:49 PM

Thank you!

Those preloaded wallpapers have been bugging me for months - and I didn't think I could ever get them off my 8130. Thanks for the step by step instructions - they were tremendously helpful for a newbie such as myself!
