Help - strange unlock and BlackBerry ID issue...

5 Attachment(s)
In short:

I unlocked my BB and I can ONLY use the SIM card I unlocked it with!

Booting with any NEW SIM card OR NO SIM card - and BB presents me with:

Quote:

"Black Berry ID Sign In" ... "You're using a new SIM Card. Sign In and get more from your BlackBerry service"
OR to "... Wipe Data ... return to factory defaults ... after restart, sign in with BlackBerry ID"
for now it basically LOCKS me within the blue BB Sign in screen - I imagine a "wipe data" will fix this - but will leave me w/o any of my settings, software, etc...

only if I try to make an Emergency Call I see the entire home screen and all normal for a second and that's it :(

OR I boot with the SIM card I had when I unlocked it with - can enable WiFi and then boot with another SIM card / no SIM card - it's able to use WiFi to authenticate me - that's not right - I'm planing to use this in countries where there is no data or wifi around...

please help...

Q & A:

* I do not have Blackbery Protect - it says it's not compatible with OS 7 or so...

P.S. I have not BES and BIS on this device
it's been replaced with another phone for the line it was on... not that it should have anything to do with just using an unlocked BB - I just want to use this phone with local SIM cards to make SMS and calls cause I love BB - so no internet, no browsing, no BBM... (I have another BB and droid 3 with unlimited global data from verizon for that...)

I think it's a new BB OS 7 "issue" ... where they are more like iPhone - if it's not your account = not your applications = erase it all and start new... :'( I cry...

* Please see attached 8 pictures of this post and next one

in details: I love BB... I've used them for 5+ years... I've unlocked dozens over the years and never had this...

now I have a BlackBerry Bold 9930 from and by Verizon... I'm going over seas and will need to use another SIM card in it... I've put another SIM card and it said blackberry is locked...
I got the unlock code... and unlocked it all was fine... was able to make a test call with a new SIM card... ALL OK...

BUT now when I took the SIM card out and booted it OR placed any other NEW SIM card it - it gives me the attached Blackberry ID sign in screen!!!

:'( I cry...

it fails to authenticate me - because it needs the _internet_
(because if I boot up with my original SIM card and enable WiFi and boot with any other SIM card - only then it's able to authenticate me... with same password and etc...)

this is odd and actually crazy... it relies on the internet to give me access to the phone - if I'm in a middle of an undeveloped country no 3G or WiFi - and need to reboot / use another SIM etc... how does it expect me to authenticate!?

and even more I am worried that even if I wipe ... and restore to factory - I will end up being presented with this sign in screen...

I've tried to remove the BlackBerry ID in options - but can't see a way to do it...

is it OS 7 issue?

is it the AppWorld 3 issue? should I remove it? should I uninstall it?

what do you think will happen if I enter the wrong sign in password 11 times?

what ever it is - there must be some sort of a work around... some solution ... some hack... let's be innovative ... let's think ... let's try to solve this...

is my only option to "Wipe Data" and lose all my setting, applications... ?

...

PLEASE help me...

thank you...

This is OS 7. It will prompt you for your BlackBerry ID. I don't know what your options are if you don't have a BlackBerry data plan, whether you can bypass or cancel the prompt and just use the BlackBerry as a phone without a data plan, or how. But, no BlackBerry data plan, you can't create a BlackBerry ID.

Not that it matters when you don't have a data plan, but Protect comes installed and the version on app world is not compatible for now. There will eventually be an upgrade on app world, as there was for the podcasts app just the other day.

I understand now that OS7 has BB Protect pre-installed... and is causing this;

I want to be able to put any SIM I want and have it work - like a dozen other blackberries did for me over the years... this lock down is insane ... worse then iPhone...

hmmmm well wait what are my options now?

#1) is there anyway to disable this BlackBerry protect? must be some trick... some hack...

#2) if I just wipe and reset the phone to factory settings - will that resolve the issue? will I be able to just put any SIM card I want and be able to SMS and call using that?

#3) don't really know what else I can do?

thank you...

Re: Help - strange unlock and BlackBerry ID issue...

I take it you are talking about the prompt when you start the BlackBerry for the first time, wipe it, or put a different SIM in it. That is not Protect. That is OS 7.

I don't recall if there is a cancel option. If all you have is either enter an ID or create an ID then I don't know what you can do. Maybe there is an answer in the manual; I haven't look.

why?

my friend because now per the above as of OS 7 BB is more like iPhone

welcome to the world where you are controlled

because if you get an OS 7 BB and want to use it with another SIM card - you unlock it... but everytime you switch a SIM card or power it on without one - it will want you to sign into BlackBerry ID Sign in - and it NEEDS internet - else phone is useless

now that is sad!

No it isn't. The whole point of the BlackBerry device is connectivity. Data service should be required.

OS7 Blackbery Protect - Cause of SIM & Blackberry ID problems

Blackberry protect, part of OS7 is basically malware that, while attempting to mimic the services of Where's my Phone, actually locks the user out of many functions.

Examples of Malware Actions of Blackberry Protect

1. Cannot access WiFi from the OS7 handset without a SIM inserted and the handset connected to a wireless provider 2G (Edge), 3G or 4G data network.

2. Inability to access or setup key areas of the phone without cleaning the Blackberry Protect "security check", that will not work through WiFi and MUST have a network data signal.

3. The well reported and customer hostile action of wiping the handset, when the SIM is replaced.

The solution to these problems is the eradication of Blackberry protect from the OS7 handset. This may be accomplished in several ways:

1. Deleting the files directly from the handset

a. Connect the handset to a PC and fire up BBSAK version 1.8.5 (or newer) or Blackberry Master Control program 1.0.0.0

b. Delete ALL the following cod files from the handset. The files need to be removed one at a time, as the handset will reboot several times during this process.

net_rim_bb_dryad_commonlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_daemonlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_gui.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_platformcommonlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_platformlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_reslargelib.cod
net_rim_bbcommons_dryad.cod

2. Wiping the handset and reloading the OS

a. Make a complete backup of your data!!!

b. Download the version of OS7 that you want to load (the delete the vendor.xml file as described well elsewhere.)

c. Go into the Program Files > Common Files > Research in Motion > Shared > OS you've downloaded and installed on the PC name > net_rim_bb_dryad.alx

DELETE THE FILE net_rim_bb_dryad.alx

d. If you are paranoid and want to be totally sure that Blackberry Protect is GONE, to to the Java folder

Program Files > Common Files > Research in Motion > Shared > OS you've downloaded and installed on the PC name > Java

and also delete ALL of the following files

net_rim_bb_dryad_commonlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_daemonlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_gui.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_platformcommonlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_platformlib.cod
net_rim_bb_dryad_reslargelib.cod
net_rim_bbcommons_dryad.cod

e. Brick the phone and reload the new OS using Crack Mem v 3.4 (or newer)

:-)

Not actually. It would be stupid to not activate a new SIM card.

I feel you on that but why should you be required to delete EVERYTHING on an unlocked/locked phone? That makes an unlocked phone unless and unlocking phones should be free.

It's for security reasons.

HAHAHAHA!!! Shukran habibi for the laugh this morning. Yeah, I've not been a lot of places. I've only been to 30 countries in the world, several of which are third world. I have always activated my SIM cards in an old Nokia that I know can dial the short codes to activate service, and then I put it in the device that needs it (BlackBerry, iPad, etc.).

Thanks for the advice on my comments!
