1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Revenge of the Direct Send Info!!!

Guess what appears to be back!!! Yes, hide filed messages is on. But it is not working at present. They even went as far as making a new cute little icon for it at the top!!

Guess what still does not work......... Google maps - my location!!! I may try to re-install it & see what happens.

I will say for a few min of tinkering, the BB maps seems to be connecting quicker, but thats not the point!!!

I have not had any problems w/ mms as I dont have to very much so no info there!!

I've been wondering the same thing. It's in the download folder and if I try to open it nothing happens. I keep hoping there is a way for direct connect messages to be directed to that floder to keep them out of my mailbox but so far I am not seeing that it does anything.

I did update a few days ago and now find power consumption to be way up. Apps and usage are the same but battery DOA by mid-day. Anyone else have same issue?

Thanks.

This update was the best thing that happened to my 8350i. I had multiple issues with mine and now most of them are fixed. It was easy to do, and worth the effort. Back-up your information first.

Direct send message are essentially the cell & DC number forwarded from a DC user to your phone. This is an interesting feature but on the BB they are more of an annoyance b/c they are recieved as a message in the catch all message box.

You could go to message / general options/ hide filed messages / yes ........... This would hide the direct send message. Previously I dont recall the folder being in downloads (but it may have been hidden) but it has appeared since the update.

We also have a new sports & entertainment folder w/ nothing in it!

I am seriously disappointed in the GPS of this device. Other berries have great GPS function but BB maps is weak & GMM wont give you your location. This & the direct send messages are thorns in my side that make me angry.

And one other thing, the volume profiles. Set it to quiet & the DC calls still come thru. The point of quiet would be NO SOUND!! Including DC.

I'm goin back to .83... maybe I just had a bad copy, but my phone hasn't been right since I upgraded. Good luck!!

I have the opposite problem. If i put it on speakerphone while driving since I don't use bluetooth I have to switch to speaker then back to hand set then to speaker AGAIn before it actually goes on the speakerphone.

Texts?? Not sure how they say this issue is fixed. I actually have yet to receive one text since upgrading and since it was a new phone because the first update killed my other one I wanted to get opera mini and the gmail application again but have been unable to gee either since the link was supposed to have been sent via text.... that I never got.:?

Testing the GPS tomorrow! It worked fine on my other 8350i before any updates and it it doesn't work right I am downgrading because I am going to NYC next week for the first time and I am really counting on my GPS.

How do you downgrade if necessary?

Bamellis 02-13-2009 10:03 AM

So last night the text decided to come thru ALL AT ONCE! After that I was able to send and receive them instantly. My sister tried to forward a text with a picture and I still can't get those though.

the great gazoo 02-13-2009 10:47 AM

I have been getting my picture texts with no problem i have however one small text problem one time my text was recvd 10 minutes after it was sent but i was in a bad spot with bad recption. it was nice to see that the text came through when my signal came back. Hey Bamellis I live in NYC my gps works fine with telenav so you should not have a problem at all. hey if someone here messes with with ya here pm me i got your back. LOL

i10casual 02-13-2009 02:15 PM

My txt never work and the BB blames the other person. It like to say the other person's phone never answered or picked up or something.

Bamellis 02-13-2009 04:57 PM

Thanks Gazoo! Never been there and I am surely gonna get lost without GPS! I am gonna have quite a crowd of friends with me snce a bunch of us are meeting there so we should do just fine!

My text works great now! Not sure why it took so long to suddenly start working but I did go in and uncheck allow anonymous messages and everything else in there.

Will this OS update work for Telus/Mike customers as well?

CCK01 02-21-2009 04:54 PM

This model is bad. Sprint Tech stated it will fix the automatic OFF issue... Will see what happen. Also, the GPS function do not work all the time. iDEN.... #&$#&$*&

I have this same exact problem and it is REAL annoying when the DC chirps loud as heck when it should be vibrating.
