How to Read Files on your Computer?
 

I pulled all the files off my storm from the facebook 1.6 app.
Im wondering what software i could use to read and edit these files?

You mean the program files for the facebook app?

I mean once you have this installed on your phone, if you pulled all the files for that app off (assuming you know how to do this) those files.
Im wondering how I could read these things.
Theres serveral of them. Most are labled net rim bb facebook ect

you can't. they're compiled code. you can't decompile code. it doesn't work that way.

in other words, you have successfully found a way to waste a whopping of approximately 1,050,088 bytes on your hard drive

Service books are from the carrier side as far as I know.

I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure you would have to work for the carrier to get close to those files, but hey I don't know much.

I know how to get the files off the phone, but how to view and eidt, I have no clue.
I know you can do it to those books since its been done, but how they do it has not been told.
I just wanna poke around and check the stuff out.

The whole discussion is moot.

First, you really can't do much with the files (apps and/or service books) IF you can even get them off the phone.

Second, any attempt a reverse engineering the apps and/or service books is either illegal or a violation of the software license.

Third, even if you could get the files, and didn't care about legalisms or licensing, and were able to make any mods, there's not much chance of the service books working once you've mucked around with them...

Finally, what are you wanting to change? Is it worth the effort of all of the above, or are you just toying with us?

Well I can tell you this. Everyone on the Cricket Network or Metro PCs with a flashed Blackberry to that network that wants to get their WEB or MMS working wtih a normal data plan needs modified books.
My carrier will not let us add our PIN to get a BIS service with the flashed Blackberry pohones.
so anyway thats 2 things you can get it right there.
I know becasue I have such books on my phone.
I didnt do the work on them, but still i have them so I know it can be done.
Basically my network doesnt allow direct connections to their network.
You must use a proxy. I wanted to see these files, because I know that some have made things like the web broswer and MMS work by eidting files.
I thought perhaps I could look at things and see if there was a way to make things I would like working by changing something so it would use the proxy.

BTW, why does anyone need to know or care why i want to look at the files?
IF you dont know or dont want to tell me, dont bother responding.
No ones hurting you by asking how to view a file.

I didn't even know that you could see the service books files. Well hope you are able to get info on what it is you want to do. I certainly don't know how to do it.

What you are doing (or attempting to do) is obviously not something that your service provider wants / allows you to do. Getting it to work and bypassing the carrier's restrictions is, at best, shady, and probably grounds for more trouble - legal or at least being kicked off their service.

Then you cop an attitude because we explain it can't be done legally (if at all)?

I guess I am going to not "bother responding" any more. One final parting shot: Asking how to view a file and "wondering what software [you] could use to ... edit these files" are quite different matters.

argghhhhh so much drama on this site.
IF you really need to know again I am not trying to bypass their restrictions.
Since I must expain for those that want life story, When you flash a phone over they only garuntee that phone and txting will work.
If you want other stuff to work thats on you casue they wont give you any support. Its not the greatest company, and has poor customer service, but the price is right so I deal with it.
I pay for Data on my account, so to use it is not doing anything shady!
As far as what I am trying to do, Im simply trying to make things work as my carrier allows. They only allow connections via proxy to the network.
I need to change things or get apps that will auto detect to work on my phone. SO thats the big story, nothing shady about it. Feel better?
Seriously some of you should look into becoming a cop cause some how you think you are one all ready.
I came here thinking this site may have a few knowledable people on it, and posted trying to simply find out how to view a damn file and its gotta blow up into a bunch of drama. Youre getting attitude from me becasue thats all you have given me. Learn how to communicate with people and dont be so nosey.
