*FREE* SSH/Telnet for your Blackberry!
Just a F.Y.I for users who are new and are unaware of this, but a new open-source Blackberry SSH/Telnet client is out:
http://www.xk72.com/midpssh/ Please help support the cause and e-mail the developer if you use the software, also to inform him of bugs.. right now, the major bugs: * Random crashing in the menu (will be fixed soon) * no backspace key (to be fixed) * some crashing in SSH2 applications However, this application works great if you don't need 100% reliability, with features such as: * Curses support (pine, xxxxxX, ircii, work flawlessly ) * Color! (of course, how can you xxxxxX without color?) * Direct input mode (type direct into your screen, no input window!) * Option for an input window * Bookmarks for saved session information Having said that, with time and more development this program will become more reliable and of course, it's open source and FREE! Give it a shot! |
Version 1.3.1 Released 31 December 2004
Duplicate menu options removed on MIDP 1.0 devices. SSH2 disconnect (invalid packet length) bug fixed. SSH1 Lite build size reduced again so that it will work on 64KB limited phones. http://www.xk72.com/midpssh/ |

Thanks. |
You should direct this to the developer himself..
as for 'sharing' this must be stored in one of the Blackberry databases, but i am not sure which one, probavbly a config database for MDIP. |
One of the bugs I have found with this software is that the first letter of the login or password is always capitalized. One of the work arounds was to create a special character for the first character, such as an underscore, then doing su regularusername to get onto irc. As mentioned in a post above, the text is also extremely tiny making this difficult to read on the 7510.
So two things that would make me use this program a lot more: 1) Bigger text 2) Non automatic capitalization of first characters. This is the ONLY SSH application that I have been able to get working under my BES enviroment at work, using the 4.0 OS. |
It looks like the new beta (1.3.7?) Addresses the issue of the blackberrys small text.
However, it looks like a new problem happens as the blackberry 7510 crashes while trying to connect. |
Did you e-mail Karl (the developer) about your issues? He would really like to know any bugs and would be helpful in resolving them..
|
Yes, I did email the developer.
I found out what was causing the blackberry crash. After wiping my handheld, everything works. It turns out if you change the cell size and make the font size to "large" the blackberry cant handle it and locks up. The settings for me that worked are, using 1.3.7: under Display options: Cols and Rows need to be left blank, Fonts need to be set to "small" instead of "large".. Small is actually quite big in comparison to the "tiny" option. Hope this helps everyone using this software. However, the problem with the capitilized login still exsists. I found a work around: Type the login name with the first letter capitilized and then the second letter non, ie: Ssirkeekles then highlight the first S, press the shift (half moon) button and press the DEL key and then the login will appear the correct way. Just as a reminder, I'm using a nextel blackberry 7510, using the 4.0 OS. |
Has anyone been able to get this program to work on a 7100t? Whenever I try to connect to any server it connects for a bit, then disconnects immediately and shows me the packet counts. I never actually get a chance to log in. I've tried it on a few different servers, 1 telnet, 2 ssh, without any luck, does the ssh server have to be configured any certain way?
edit - I am on BES by the way. |
Hi,
At the moment, I use Idokorro MobileSSH which is a much higher quality program. It is fairly expensive but worth it since I was not willing to wait for a stable telnet/SSH solution. (I did get it at an old price though). For 9 months of near flawless telnet/SSH, without any other reasonably "good enough" solutions, I feel it has been worth the price! Edit: I just noticed the price of Idokorro has been reduced recently. It comes with a free trial too. |
is anybody still having issues getting this to work with a 7100T running 4.0?
|
That's a good plug mark, but you can't beat *free*
i'll put up with some minor annoyances for some free software anyday. I'm glad to see that MidpSSH has forced the competition to lower prices.. |
headtailgrep,
Definitely. But there are many users of Vandyke SecureCRT ($69) even though there's the free PuTTY client ($0). I use both on my desktop. Along with my purchased copy of Idokorro, I have midpssh installed because it has support for color which is very useful, but it's no good for realtime chat like Idokorro is. I am able to type at 70 words per minute into the localinput line while looking at incoming text. So it works much better with curses-based chat software which I use (including MiniTTY for the deaf), midpssh is not very chat-software friendly. Idokorro is now an OFFICIAL SPONSOR of BlackBerryForums.com ;-) |

Send your usage reports to the developer, you can now use their support forum:
