Sync mail folders other than inbox
We are using Bes and BB Pearls and everything is running smoothly apart from only the inbox is been sync'd. None of the other email folders under the users account are been sync'd at all.
The folder structure is shown on the BB, but no emails Is there a setting I need to set so the whole inbox structure is sync'd Thanks in advance |
From the Messages Folder, look under Options ... Email Settings ... Folder Redirection. From there, expand the trees and select the folders you want sync'd.
I am new to BES, dont think you will get a sync with past mail in the folders but will for the future ones. |
Do you mean on the phone itself?
|
Yes - this can be done on the phone (or in desktop manager)

I was wondering the same thing, but I don't have a Folder Redirection option on my BB Pearl.
For work email I'm using BES, but I was also wondering if this was supposed to work with BIS as well. Essentially, to access the internet mail via IMAP protocol, which supports multiple folders, rather than pop3. |
i also don't have the Folder Redirection
option on my bberry 8800. I do I get this option to appear?

How to find Folder Redirection on the 8800
Took me a while to find this. (I'm sure I'm not the only one.)
To enable folder redirection (to download messages other than Inbox)... In Messages: Click Menu, select Options -> Email Settings, click Menu, select Folder Redirection. (ahh, there it is.) Then select the folders you want to synch with. (Only new messages will appear. To get the older messages, you have to move them out and then back into the appropriate folder.) MW |
Also do not have the folder redirection option on my pearl. All other Blackberry devices I have worked with, including the 7290, 8700c, and 8800c have had this option. Also a co-workers pearl has this option...why doesn't mine? BES setting?
|
Slightly different on my 8700e, try here:
Messages > Options > Email Settings > Send Email to Handheld In the popup menu, you can change option to Yes or No; Yes required and below it has the Folder Redirection option. Hope that works for you. P |
Actually for the folder redirection on a 8703e you need to go;
1.) From the main Screen -> Click Messages 2.) Click Trackwheel for menu items 3.) Go to OPTIONS 4.) Go to EMail Settings 5.) On "Send EMail to Handheld" Click the trackwheel for Menu items. 6.) When the menu items pop up you should see "Folder Redirection" click that. 7.) Once in folder view, you can select all or certain folders to redirect to. One question I have regarding this; If I have redirection on to a particular subfolder and a message comes in through my exchange, then the rule is applied, does this message show in the subfolder on my BB or will it show in my Inbox? thanks, B |

The BES admin says all is fine on the BES server so may I need to reactivate the account. Anyone know how to do that? Do I need to do a wipe? If so will I have to reload my Data Vault? |
What I have found that works for me is to do things in the following order;
1.) Set folder redirection 2.) If set on BES, wait 5 minutes to verify that the settings have propagated down to your device. 3.) In Outlook, move the messages into the folders that you want to see them in. (Or if you are moving messages out of a folder to move them back in so you can view them on your device) 4.) Wait 10 - 15 minutes and let your BB reconcile on its own. It doesn't seem to help to force replication when moving messages in folders. 5.) If you moved messages out of a folder in order to move them back in, move them back in and wait again. This worked for me. I think the key for me was being patient and waiting for the device to replicate on its own. To reactivate your Handheld, my suggestion would be to wipe your device, have your BES admin reset your activation password, and you should be good to go. As far as your Data Vault, when I have wiped units in the past, it doesn't take the Blackberry completely back to factory defaults. Additional programs (ex: eoffice, Xora, Opera Mini) all seem to stay in tact. However, I cannot vouch for Ascendo's programs, or the data held within it. Take all the information you have in your data vault and write it down, then proceed with your wipe, just in case. B |

Access to other public folders
we need to be able to access our main company mailing list and our main contact database in our public folders. How can we do this?
Sal |
I don't think this individual has set up folder redirection. It would appear that the only thing the pearls sync automatically would be the inbox.
Suggestion would be to set up folder redirection either on the BES or the handheld itself. If it is for multiple users, then I would suggest through the BES. |
Salc76,
You need to setup your public folders through your Exchange System Manager: Here is a good starting point: Using General Purpose Public Folder Trees in Exchange 2003 |
I know how to redirect users outlook folders within there own profiles by selecting folder redirection. However, what I would like to do is to have users access the companies public folder/s such as a global address book.

I have the same question. I would like to wireless sync a public folder that has contacts in it. Sycing these folders with the wire is fine until we moved to wireless syc with bes 4.1
