Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8320:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed. If you need it here's a link for Desktop Manager:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 45 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device

Note: Preinstalled wallpapers and custom folder icons are not included in this release.

Is this official .55 release close to be snappy and smooth as the .69 beta that has been out there for a while? I'd rather install official releases but if there is a hint that another carrier will release something more recent than .55 soonish, I'll stick it out with .52 a bit longer.

ANy idea what languages are available in this version?

lautamas 08-22-2008 09:21 AM

Indosat? Indonesian Provider who provides prepaid blackberry for USD17 a month for unlimited usage...

Yes.

And its against forum policy to ask for or post lins to unreleased RIM software.

Has anyone tried it yet? If so, Any problems with it?

revsnet 08-22-2008 11:50 AM

I just upgraded to .52 last week and I like the improvements overall but my ringer volume is now only about half what it was. As I work in a noisy environment, the loud ringer was an important feature to me. I'm curious to know if .55 addresses that issue.

lautamas 08-22-2008 11:54 AM

is it possible to use the previous version's BLACKBERRY.AXL to overwrite to the current version's blackberry.axl? (with the removed DEVICE ID, so I can install all themes)?

kd78 08-22-2008 12:21 PM

I am installing as I type but was curious if UMA connections are any more reliable on this release? 4.5.0.52 was terrible for me.

thenewnoise 08-22-2008 04:24 PM

I'm doing the upgrade now. Half way through after, after the device had been erased, the desktop manager said it couldn't contact the device anymore. I unplugged it and removed the battery and plugged it back in and went into the app loaded and it ask me what apps I wanted to install. I picked my apps and now its restoring.

thenewnoise 08-22-2008 06:13 PM

The restore is done and everything seems to be ok. It could be the cables fault that it lost the connection.

BCollins521 08-22-2008 10:52 PM

Anyone went from .69 down to this one? See any differences?
