9300 Curve Intermittent problem with calls

I am 3 weeks into ownership of a lovely Blackberry Curve 9300 3G.

There is a problem laking and receiving calls from my home where I think I may be close to a couple of masts. When out and about making and receiving calls always ok.

Says call failed, and calls to the phone go to voicemail, yet I have maximum bars on the signal. Email / internet works fine, just not making or receiving calls.

If I pull battery, this usually works for a few minutes before problem returns.

Note – I had an 8520 previously, but had a problem, so I used the PC software to do a straightforward back-up from the PC to the Curve 9300. Is there any setting here that may have been impacted?

I am happy to do a complete reset if this may cure the problem – but, being a Quality Consultant, would like to know the cause of the problem :)

Any ideas welcome – phone clearly works, just not all the time at my house!!

Moved to the 9300 section.

It could be a coverage ad/or interference issue at your home. Probably best to call your carrier and talk to their tech support rather than try to surmise what is going on using this forum/

I have a similar issue with ATT at my house. Generally 1 bar or less inside, depending on which room I am in. Outside of 50 feet from the house all is good.

Well, played about with the 2G/3G, when on 2G worked perfectly. When on either 3G or the self select 2G/3G, it had the same problem xxx8211; full bars, but does not make or receive calls.

Had 3G phones in the past, including works 3G Nokia, all work fine.

So, provided I always have on 2G mode, works perfectly in my house.

Why is the phone not realising it cannot actually make calls and switch to 2G?

As a workaround for the time being I have enabled wifi so using wifi if available for the internet, otherwise I am having to manually turn on 3G provided I remember to turn it off again!

Network is with Orange - I live in Blighty.

An update - it was a problem with my service provider. Apparantly 3G has two transmitters, one for voice and one for data. Data was working, but voice was not in my area. As the data was working, the handset showed full bars, which is rather misleading!

Not sure if I can trust 3G now, but, at least my problem is sorted.

Out of interest, Orange are now sharing transmitters with T-Mobile, Orange helpdesk sent me a link to enable my blackberry to pick up either signal depending which is the strongest.
