About Google Talk for BlackBerry devices program

You can use the Google Talk for BlackBerry devices program to communicate with other Google Talkxxx8482; users using your BlackBerryxxx174; device. To use the Google Talk for BlackBerry devices program, you must have Google Talk for BlackBerry devices installed on your BlackBerry device and you must have a Google Talk user name and the Google Talk for BlackBerry devices program installed on your BlackBerry device.

Your Google Talk user name is the portion of your Gmailxxx8482; address before the at sign (@). To get a Gmail account, you must have a United States based SMScompatible phone number or a contact, or Friend, must invite you. Visit mail.google.com for more information about Gmail.

If you are signed in to Google Talk on your computer and on your BlackBerry device, and you reply to a Google Talk message on your BlackBerry device, subsequent messages for that conversation are sent to your BlackBerry device.

Note:
You can send and receive email messages and use other programs on your BlackBerry device while the Google Talk for BlackBerry devices program is open. An alert appears in the BlackBerry device status section of the screen when you receive a new instant message.

it would rock if google talk uses data (MDS or IBBB) rather than SMS for instant messaging.

Jibi, do you know when this product will be available?

Will it be available for the 8700 that T-Mobile will not be selling?

I noticed this too on my 7290 tonight. I just upgraded my ATTW to Cingular's 4.0.2.56, but dunno if it was related. No GoogleTalk icons.

so from what i read google talk allows you to talk to other chat clients IE AIM... Currently I use ramble and it signs me off every so often like there i no tomorrow (were talking 2 times a minute). and this is my second 7130e w/ ramble doing it! This will be an alternative correct?

jibi 03-07-2006 08:21 AM

Nope. Google Talk only allows conversations with other Google Talk users. This is based on Jabber, so you will also be allowed to converse with other Jabber clients, I believe.

bb4lfe 03-07-2006 08:58 AM

Verizon, 7130, google talk service book as well...any ideas?

jibi 03-07-2006 09:18 AM

once its out of beta, you will likely be able to go to a download page on RIM's BlackBerry.com website and download it ... very similar to how the Yahoo download 'worked'. i'm glad they went ahead and learned from their past fiasco and allowed the service book PRIOR to making it available on the web.

FYI, it's available on T-Mobile as well - just have to register on a new HRT.

What in blazing hell does this have to do with google talk?

Back to topic, this looks like it will be soon ;) I just hope the AIM client is right behind it.
